Roles and Functions
/ g$ k9 L7 g- h" mThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the1 E0 f! O7 U/ F$ Y. Q
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
% x5 w+ g' C' g5 ~operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has, d( D: R# t, W1 \
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,9 _$ f1 Q0 t+ t2 n, _9 |
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: y" h2 n+ o6 c( I' c; T0 Oboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is4 I1 H; c) E/ e8 x+ Z: q
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
2 x c3 Y; v$ c4 c8 ]employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
4 k, y- g1 W* }3 O3 p! {staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend% B3 J% a5 Z: }% Q" s
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 \* l; b' n* I8 j' g9 i

1 Q. `# B; ?$ o+ r4 ~1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural9 h7 z4 B9 E9 H0 I7 {
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 B J+ p b9 G- o7 p6 S V
and public institutions
6 t8 M4 b9 C0 t% V7 J, V3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
/ S! y! e: S' Q" zfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
/ u$ |# J" [; p! o; J4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
# A; V5 s* |4 e: ]+ A5 e, Borganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
# V' Q# H4 N7 { G# A' pwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

! G b: }: n7 CAdministrative responsibilities:% o- p% o6 q6 ?: h3 u, T! r
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
2 ]7 M( u. ]* Y8 P& D8 y% iregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
[) t2 K" V0 \: r# K- Zdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the, f* G- q5 s4 Z5 |2 t" t& Q
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.6 ^0 F2 z5 J$ X5 ?, Y& C3 N; z
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
* ?2 ~$ Y% I0 @9 U# C" y# EMulticultural Coalition
0 d+ M) F! P. w7 ]/ ~Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board. l- q' s- T" t; l# h, [- |8 P
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
- V/ R2 `# S" e* |1 s7 ?+ ]2 ~implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
" z* _3 a; O \5 Yoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
& c+ a9 c8 |* t; t! i2 O) BThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
4 }& `6 S5 k6 Xaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should* F+ [% }0 ]% }* T) r$ ~
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
; o: a) j- i: S1 R: t# ~participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and2 i+ G$ @% i) g I
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- j Y2 ~, g1 Q" ?/ r3 c
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
N/ r: O! g+ v: k. Q+ O0 C. k! wstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all/ _. N; \. m& q( ~) ] [
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of- C/ t$ Q Q' q! K/ k
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of N; F$ ]7 c. O z2 N1 `

1. Intercultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation
