Roles and Functions! p$ l; s L. p) w+ K0 o
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the- f4 R6 a/ ~) T
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
) X/ n- V1 |6 ^9 q& o+ {& z$ H- M8 roperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has7 u9 G: z5 S# u; c
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress," G2 ]' C$ t$ W# v+ y, E+ }
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular. i5 f+ M- N/ ^4 m4 Z# V
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
; L& E: R6 u2 {conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an( E; d6 Z, U, o$ ^" k/ J' b
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires5 v& i( `1 S( [' c2 q* \9 N
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
+ _, [$ p4 U/ O V" D# Dall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the$ a7 }8 g0 A; i- s2 @9 N" f3 r: x
officers of the Coalition8 Y @: _, M( L/ C% k: y5 X
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural4 u5 Q# L) O' Q* A& @8 u
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
- H! B, d0 X3 o4 J/ G' A- Yand public institutions! ?) E: \) |/ }7 Z+ U
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through' |0 I0 E9 i; k+ I7 L
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives+ m6 y9 q+ Y2 n. @4 F) `" L8 y& M
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
n/ R6 M- k% u% H b* i8 rorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

% w7 j( G* A* k. Y# `; r- {with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

5 r$ Z$ ^& Q$ n+ O4 N4 y& w; ZAdministrative responsibilities:& d5 J( [- w3 `! X- |# {
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its8 i: C# q4 p6 L( r1 B: \, [
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of7 p! x( J$ x3 d* O2 Z
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
- t0 n% N* Z' C7 c0 Fmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition. U7 ?5 e1 E7 ~: O/ } h
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
( P g5 w) d* s" N" `Multicultural Coalition
8 _9 _8 c/ j1 H2 D" z) XRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
% X ]6 L* ?" D# S P8 [All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ b7 f( g. I5 ^2 S
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating9 j& Z0 m* N% n( e1 M
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# m. q3 `- [- J5 t1 k8 ]" i; } [The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and4 h2 p. S& |: n4 G' h V o3 T
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should# n; H( [. \' s. N4 k
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership1 D" p" a5 {% ]! I* d" e
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and4 `% R# p+ X# e* e
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
2 m6 D/ G# N* m2 ?directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial A$ [* T Z3 V4 Y8 i- v: ~
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all& O* P) u( p$ F1 K& V7 y! d* ^
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding. G1 n. G7 c, \0 U, z- [

4. Experience in administrative work with a proven ability to multi-task and

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power! D, H: S* i0 ^: A0 ^* t

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with; X, `! r2 v* s% Z6 h

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
