Roles and Functions: f4 m8 z" j9 Z
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
- e; v& z' o* r) b% D) [! Q: ^" s2 worganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 z S7 `, u5 T! y
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
4 t( V0 i9 H& O/ W. f( L3 Nthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
" d6 u4 w, y% D! Soperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular E y$ Y. z1 r& y1 S
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
$ u- u- y" E- j" ~7 }: [conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
* x. D e) l' i8 Femployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
" Z' E a) p0 P8 `# @& B! wstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend# ?& p( n, Y( C5 W; w3 d9 V
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.9 ~0 W! u h/ `& R) ~0 u' {

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:

officers of the Coalition7 H2 Q4 O1 V! {# I( L
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
& \0 q# A% @2 \7 n0 Uorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
, V/ f% a# W! nand public institutions: X) Y& J% o0 X2 t
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 {# d- S. T" Q6 b/ s7 ~
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives; h1 D) t; V7 N1 X1 s0 N$ k( J9 A- j
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community. Q: S) D# X) b: s$ Q
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with: F3 g5 ~3 t B

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community* s" A% c, h* x; ?& l6 P5 B* B8 X

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
" H3 O* v6 m$ m$ _7 fparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically

Administrative responsibilities:
' _7 ^$ B5 Q+ e; Z9 [9 R9 x1 r1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
9 ]/ P6 n+ V7 W4 A1 q$ l3 T; u4 xregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of( g$ |8 \ M/ ]& ?
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the0 G& I8 P& \0 _! g) q5 {
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
) m( V. V. \8 q3 Q* K$ C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the. d4 h* A9 I! |6 q

Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board& Q5 H; [% s* H( e( H' K/ J3 d
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to2 g" T4 K5 F& g
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" A4 ^- c$ i! i o
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.8 w3 y6 i8 ~, j3 e) z8 o, y
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
% X+ R$ F. y) W* t6 o: n y+ Jaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
( g% Y/ x9 m+ v. C. W( u, W0 S, P" `8 Kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
9 f; E' ^. J c8 O3 hparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
& ^5 c, V9 g1 s5 Q* Y Ofacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
/ }1 a& X* H4 F+ A5 mdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 |2 j5 d2 W% A* C% J
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
# _+ v: I2 p! B& K$ r2 K3 cmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of" H: W6 `! J6 n; h* z5 @/ [
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

Pay Range & Terms
