The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the) q; m# j8 c0 r- l- y' G2 { 
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the- V0 D5 \0 s% y) ^: p8 j4 u 
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has 
* C5 H+ ~5 c! W8 x& M4 L! }' ^the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress, 
3 q- O' a* L5 ~) p0 E' t" H8 Woperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular 
1 I- _. u# Q% V" x( X" c( Vboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is! F( R' @: n' v/ y' }3 w# W7 Q' Q- j 
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an 
, I% J6 k0 A" ?5 K& demployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires 
) f  z! \: v' ~0 a& a4 Q1 Ystaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend+ @3 ]. @* Z% l) W# {+ ? 
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.  I/ \! ^6 W% D0 i6 B8 u

Functions and responsibilities:5 ~8 r9 a6 N/ M! m! p, o5 v9 E$ M 
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following: 
# j8 k6 k& r2 e' [1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the5 J1 d5 Y: q, N# i* J+ U, W 
officers of the Coalition4 E" W* X. h' o7 K3 ? 
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural 
  D1 h( c/ J0 s' p8 Corganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations 
9 O' O; w) b! o2 N6 M: Zand public institutions5 X4 m$ W7 @3 y3 }- S 
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through 
' F; N$ N' X" i: x5 xfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives 
7 h/ D* [# X& U9 q) G. D9 W8 k4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community 
. B- S/ v3 W) f8 ]9 g; h- T( }$ \organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with% E. A' p# t; d& x' v 
these organizations5 k2 T& y( m0 Q2 _+ _ 
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community# D$ i7 o4 k% f: }. y% ~8 M 
leaders 
# F" W; O0 H3 ~  t6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working1 A/ q( m( z0 R  _/ O+ E0 s 
with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically. U) M8 c' y4 c7 Z) }

Administrative responsibilities: 
7 y" U  Z! w% r+ m$ K% v+ \1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its, T+ ]. |- s. H& x- @5 _ 
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of 
* Y, _7 {% Y, ^8 Ldirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the 
  l: f: z( f' c) cmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition. 
: a( k% i9 E7 D5 g  Q7 b6 \. a2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the 
. a1 s+ z) g/ A! ]! ]# |9 T! S# GMulticultural Coalition 
0 C7 U. ]" s/ f! @% dRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board 
9 G9 ^7 Z0 x* j% Y7 Z3 J3 c+ v! QAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to 
3 m/ }6 J+ i, w. Ximplement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating 
& q. [# s* W  ]! u9 Foperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility. 
3 R) {# g# ^2 u0 P3 ]. j) aThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and2 Y% ]2 V' |. y- o) ]  @$ z 
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should 
( ~8 y0 n0 e+ Z1 [$ `be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership4 L* D5 n: T* n3 R& a 
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and5 i) L: J5 q$ I4 W 
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of: k( D. }. W& H 
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial 
( `5 l1 s% A$ O. p! L% Q! v' qstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all 
$ B- n6 [3 {  A7 V( u7 T! n6 Ematters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of: y: T) C% W3 T! u. S 
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of2 c. R1 {. m7 w0 E6 @6 x 
policies already adopted
