- c% T) J: l- r% @$ b5 rRoles and Functions
( Y% A) A/ [5 P, s# ?1 \) K+ xThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the7 w7 _! w$ e3 ], E
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the5 t! M4 z+ X. I' _. R* `
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
8 n# o$ A4 n, v# E+ cthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,* E* L: L1 h5 a
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
) o; F. O- V3 X# L5 x6 I: e2 _8 gboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& @, n5 Z9 T" W1 }/ ^8 D$ o1 |2 econducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
( Z# ^9 X' m( wemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires% i* `/ A$ Z' C) Y# \& K$ I3 Q9 V
staff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend' D$ u5 A' o% z* P9 r3 X
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:( U1 o: Y T, g
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:# k/ Q/ X; k( C" d1 i
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
- T1 d, D1 N& P/ k: r* f& q* E7 Tofficers of the Coalition
; a9 g; d0 p' g2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
+ P% Z% b- ?7 Q% torganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
% H6 I8 T- @0 i( ~5 rand public institutions
: F4 D( [' t! }* z$ W3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
# N& V5 a& T. w c& G: D9 c8 {funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives6 q2 v; V% c" o, c9 f) x1 r
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community6 C: Y0 d% n$ T3 `
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with8 c+ H) b8 r! o, d5 i+ V

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community/ a7 Q- ?6 F2 J. l5 k+ B4 b; @+ q

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

2 u9 Z$ _; d: tAdministrative responsibilities:' X# ]) f2 g @. o) A" E9 W
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
# ~/ `- L& b7 v# S6 {" {' C$ Y8 Kregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of- [! C. } x$ m; y6 y/ b
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
. i3 _0 ?9 d) }/ Y7 \- U. }members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
8 o. v$ s: d7 J: S2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
$ u4 x; @9 X+ u5 r# Z p# ZMulticultural Coalition5 Q6 b# [* p* x3 y" m1 A( B d: n
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
# ]& C- b, ]* G) b( h! ~+ |All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to+ [- q6 o' P: Q# d! P
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
9 R7 y" S. K& {, s" W2 zoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
) c$ v; ?- S- L1 S* l8 dThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
( Q; h9 B$ I- saims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
$ ?- K5 _" @5 K! q- |. k- Mbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
: _8 [; O4 p F" W3 @# P% M Wparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
) @1 v( _6 ]# D8 ^3 b4 h8 ~facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of7 Z8 c2 R6 Y# X: r6 R3 [$ n' O
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
) K- h- }3 t' N( s" mstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
5 x/ s/ o- u3 g. ~matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' B: A* h5 v+ y+ f7 A
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of$ v! I, d' v* t5 \4 B
policies already adopted
