The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition9 f- ~1 c" m7 ^: e' j- [& T4 _! m: f, g
Roles and Functions# ~4 R2 G- K2 s: v4 ]" Q0 L
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the/ W+ p& w6 m" M7 M; J- ^6 d( M
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
0 Z: Z* v, U7 `7 j5 foperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has% f: Z" K. O: P' ^
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
# f7 G0 z2 U+ K! h2 {operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular c$ I8 V3 ? |; D2 z& U, m4 x; B6 ~
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
8 M/ L$ g$ K6 Tconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an3 N0 C9 V6 f( \" ]
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
E% W1 f( v+ N$ R! {: Q/ ~6 M; Hstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend0 t) b7 t6 B/ Z: G
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.* T) B0 d5 {& O4 R

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
X+ g3 C9 B8 z5 P; Y: Y" `, k1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 n, x# }% v* N0 g
officers of the Coalition
3 y9 A, r) L5 W: |2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
! N, E) D% z1 e# n9 Forganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations3 i `& K# B+ H Y$ z7 v$ g$ U
and public institutions
% s& V2 o8 D( r" N6 u# e' {% _3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through* k7 i# I7 g3 `: n% R+ O& R8 W
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives' j& G- D& Q2 q
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community) X- H) _# a4 A& O9 ^# L8 L( Q
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with$ G8 _! _) o6 E/ \: q
these organizations

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
* J/ V5 C. ~3 |regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of8 F9 \6 e% G# l0 {6 ?4 P
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
7 r" ?4 E! Q! P/ ?+ M nmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition./ h) W( S. `1 r4 G
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" j; { ~4 d) F9 C2 rMulticultural Coalition
! ?$ l! P) M6 D8 vRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board) p4 `+ y9 b( R0 e" I% c
All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to i9 }$ ~& l7 Z+ B% H: D' z
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
0 C8 E+ j" [ K. b1 a/ Y9 @* V4 Xoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.# E$ g% \! A* p; f
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and3 s6 F0 i2 |: y; N0 Z3 _; q
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should$ T8 L, K3 _1 i; _
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership' Z) |: k* F2 x. b
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
; S# e6 g7 J+ w' s Y8 j. sfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
; J: l3 _0 E0 _directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial9 m5 q8 @) o, S7 L4 T& D+ y( D( J
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
+ [# x) N8 ?2 Rmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' d' u" @, q/ d& ]
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of8 r. p# I4 s& r3 o" l
policies already adopted+ y$ l, m! h v1 c" z3 r

Pay Range & Terms

possible extension depending on funding.
