The Engineers and Technologists Integration Program (ETIP) involves a

• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)

• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).# c; s% D* N, @9 N! N) R$ O; v
Beginning in 1995, ETIP:7 b) e; x o- L; O Y9 k- }
• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and
( ]* V" f( @* {$ E3 Z• helps participants develop the skills and recognition needed to work as

immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it
. w- B7 |# K+ N3 a% r$ j9 y; Qdifficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not
& ^8 b% n( g1 o( ]! Q Grecognize their international experience or credentials.

Integrated training offers a blend of occupation-related skills, a work/ t* E" n& e2 a8 w$ s
experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or7 t$ M$ Y& }* W

The ETIP program involves four phases:

The training components of ETIP assist participants in developing skills
: M9 }; a4 |7 r6 p4 `required for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:
4 q& E- ~) A+ ~% m7 m􀂉 450 hours of in-class time
$ E l. Q. }* T4 F" ]3 i' e( h. \• job search and job management skills
& x2 m0 v- [* q% c" i• first-aid training, and5 u8 k6 y& n: u( b$ {: A
• computer training.
4 g% a7 c& y$ Z8 SUpon successful completion of ETIP, graduates are Technologist-in-Training: p- `* H' c& m% t( T$ f

• ASET is a professional association that provides credential assessment8 z* Q) B3 f. y% @
and recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering7 K1 r4 q: x8 c+ K" ^" X1 s2 q
technologist field.

• The program addresses both the needs of foreign-educated engineer

Edmonton immigrant community.

' u' P' p* g0 v. d ?* B, DAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have- ]- l3 D! n/ {- d+ c
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.. z9 Z- I* @1 K( [$ O
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
. L- r# t5 x9 u# c4 ?& ograduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,
