In her latest book, Handshoes: The Power of the Purse (Workman Publishing), Johnson celebrates the joys of great sacks. Through a fun, twisted text, christian shoes, she puts handshoes into categorical context. The first chapter focuses on Elegant Icons. "In the '50s, of course, it was Grace Kelly's shoe that launched the whole "It" trend," says Johnson, of the famous Her-mes Haut a Courroies shoe that paved the way for other iconic styles by Paco Rabanne, Gucci, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Prada, Kate Spade and Louis Vuitton to follow in the "It" spotlight.

The final chapter is dedi-cated to humorous handshoes -- a section reserved for the likes of Lulu Guinness, Moschino and Jean Paul Gaultier.
