Primary purpose: The Social Worker works in partnership with settlement workers or 8 \, V8 d, `+ T |5 K N6 u$ w0 m
community cultural brokers from New Canadian Health Network partner organizations to 2 e3 t' |0 U6 l8 h3 X) L
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs. ; ~/ _ t* F, ?- L9 A/ m9 u0 U
3 f( T. o2 A$ @/ @ w Nature of Work: The Social Worker will report to the manager of mental health services. % `3 S7 R- _- W/ c
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
" w2 V$ Y% Z$ ]* enewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social $ X- P& z/ o! k% \4 D. e
Worker will assist in case planning, conferencing and providing support and advocacy as 1 m0 \3 `1 x) t; K7 N
needed. As required, the Social Worker will assist in accessing community supports for
# s! A, w) E4 ^) ?% c9 lnewcomers and their families. The Social Worker provides holistic and flexible initial
4 n; p6 [7 g1 e3 P8 Yassessment of life circumstances, needs, goals and aspirations and adheres to the client-+ H0 f" }4 @9 O3 K4 j
centered delivery model. - ]3 ?$ o; T4 L& Y

Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families.

Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental ! A% \7 I2 e, e) T8 ?% k

Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers.

Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and 0 d( C" v- e1 n1 [# ]
experience in Social Work or related human service fields. 4 O6 F% ~" y4 e: k9 h
Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family 6 U, M) h5 t6 G8 k
support needs ) N- ]$ ]: L }4 e" `0 s
Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
# v! z; `" c6 x7 f) s( u3 [ Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages / s% Q+ e7 l- D9 \) q3 \
Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate $ u8 @; N( S+ R3 Z8 b! }

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
