9 h3 _' X0 _* g6 t* _The Organization: The Multicultural Coalition is an organization that has engaged emerging immigrant and refugee communities in enhancing the communities’ organizational capacity, facilitating partnership development, implementing community-developed advocacy strategies and civic engagement through community animation. Roles & Functions: The Associate Coordinator will work with the Community Based Research Committee to design & coordinate the research activities while also engage in literary research & writing the report/recommendations. He/she shares the responsibility for the over-all management/operations of the programs. ' A" G" u- b( Z* T7 G9 v5 F

The Associate Coordinator has the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress, operational concerns, organizational problems/accomplishments. He/she will help design deliver & organize program activities based on the ideas expressed by the membership/board AND, will share the coordination of the immigrant/refugee leadership, community animation/advancing social policy program activities.

6 N* d$ h* f0 l7 @& U" _3 H" eSpecific tasks for the position include the following: coordinates the community based research program of the Coalition; provides over-all coordination of program activities in consultation with the coordinator of the Coalition; builds/sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations and public institutions; organizes learning opportunities for formal/and informal community leaders on various aspects of civic participation and organization development.8 J% u& k0 d. w; R
- s, h, A' \2 i; y$ I2 uPLUS: build & nurtures a pool of community animators skilled in facilitating first language dialogues and discussions; offer opportunities for service providers to learn/experience working with groups & communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse backgrounds; seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through ongoing initiatives and secure funding; liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community organizations as well as the media and: build strategic relationships with these organizations.* b2 w, d3 W* Y+ ]* B# f
# Q% `) a! r: _% B# f9 z! sAdministrative responsibilities: Ssupport the bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of directors, and at the regular annual meeting present a statement to the members of the Coalition’s financial condition.

Key Competencies/Assets: community based research skills; cross cultural sensitivity, flexibility and an understanding or appreciation for the complex dynamics of emerging immigrant and refugee communities; leadership/critical thinking skills to bridge the needs & struggles of immigrant and refugee communities with the interests/mandates of funders, policy-makers, agencies and other decision makers; facilitation skills and ability to design, develop and deliver workshops; writing, plain language & proposal/report writing skills an asset; public speaking/media relations skills an asset.
