The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will

  ?& ]' i$ x) P( P6 }2 FAs part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English
' j( t  ?  S$ V1 ~! F" gspelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase-in
# G& M# f2 e3 d$ nplan that would become known as "EuroEnglish".

$ `/ f$ V& h% S; |9 E* S3 z8 Q7 ]! _In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make
8 H& I# X3 j" W* C% \6 sthe sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up
, j* k1 J; q6 @; X9 F, z9 e8 p: Z' ekonfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.


There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
1 G7 K1 J+ X5 }) K* ~" t4 m1 p) Wtroublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.

) H9 d! x  P, {' q+ ~0 F9 C1 KIn the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to
+ l8 U5 Q3 q- r% vreach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

ben a deterent to akurate speling.

& o2 N& v$ G) F+ Z# p4 WAlso, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is
disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with
