SKILLS TRAINING FOR IMMIGRANTS

Integrated Employability Skills Training gives immigrants the essential
skills needed for success in the Alberta workplace. This 5-month funded
' N4 u0 A" i, |# B( q# |) ~program combines classroom-based training with work site visits and work
experience placements in high-demand semi-skilled occupations, such as
) M0 m* p" F, {warehousing, customer service, hospitality, healthcare support, food
services and others.

: i/ D" w* E. F0 nCandidate Profile:
* @/ m2 a/ t6 v1 ^; X+ Q; W* n# o
Candidates for this funded program must be landed immigrants, Canadian
! D& h* ?! R* g3 U9 \# Gcitizens or refugees who are eligible to work in Canada and who have:
4 E" w# b6 y" T*        English communication skills in the 4 - 6 range on CLB
+ b. j5 V! K  c- v- t( y) u% N*        Basic literacy and numeracy skills and some secondary or post-
( e- }9 o# G: t6 psecondary education
*        A genuine interest in finding permanent employment in a high-demand
occupation
*        Availability to study fulltime for 5 months and then be employed
# l6 a% P  w" e4 e*        Willingness to commit to a program and future job
2 b& r/ x8 X3 O6 ~*        Resided in Alberta for the past 3 months

: H3 T- X# r$ lProgram Description:

  ^7 x  o% W( P                        *        4 months classroom-based instruction and
9 D, E" D. J  {1 G7 A  Hfield trips
        *        Improve your English while learning about a variety of
high-demand occupations
        *        Increase computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
. l* E+ B, A5 P6 n6 f6 P5 vInternet, etc.)
$ W) Z  R7 `1 }/ w5 @6 B. H/ [        *        Write a winning resume and improve interview skills
        *        Get First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificates
3 A; R, n" Z' v6 q& K: h# a        *        Take advantage of one-on-one employment counseling
                        *        1 month work-experience placement

        *        September 12, 2005 to January 31, 2006

Funding:

9 y$ V8 N3 T, p. fStudents may be eligible for tuition and living expenses from Student
Finance.
