SKILLS TRAINING FOR IMMIGRANTS

Program Overview:

9 t* E* d; z# L+ b6 t3 _. g- [Integrated Employability Skills Training gives immigrants the essential
skills needed for success in the Alberta workplace. This 5-month funded
program combines classroom-based training with work site visits and work
experience placements in high-demand semi-skilled occupations, such as
* B  T, h; h* }; x5 \6 v' }- uwarehousing, customer service, hospitality, healthcare support, food
1 f8 `; M8 F8 {2 k/ Qservices and others.

Candidate Profile:
& ~5 W, C7 s3 p2 ~, r0 H
' {8 N4 k: W+ F' m* o5 }. GCandidates for this funded program must be landed immigrants, Canadian
citizens or refugees who are eligible to work in Canada and who have:
# @$ v+ V; T8 ]% I*        English communication skills in the 4 - 6 range on CLB
*        Basic literacy and numeracy skills and some secondary or post-
1 {5 D7 B0 x- Y6 k$ L) z3 jsecondary education
*        A genuine interest in finding permanent employment in a high-demand
4 u% A; |; Z3 g% h* {; a* x' Ooccupation
0 h4 h; o( R; N*        Availability to study fulltime for 5 months and then be employed
$ L3 q3 L' \# `! S- I& ^*        Willingness to commit to a program and future job
*        Resided in Alberta for the past 3 months

# H: ?. ?" P; n        *        Improve your English while learning about a variety of
high-demand occupations
6 O9 {7 k% |; j2 Q1 P        *        Increase computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Internet, etc.)
: h2 Q: N7 G9 X$ o& m0 V8 T        *        Write a winning resume and improve interview skills
        *        Get First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificates
        *        Take advantage of one-on-one employment counseling

        *        September 12, 2005 to January 31, 2006
        *        Monday to Friday
        *        9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (tentative)
        *        All classes are held at The Path to Employment, 10211 - 97

Students may be eligible for tuition and living expenses from Student
Finance.
