Oil sands projects fuel provincial construction boom
( v, a1 Z+ o0 P$ l, }& W. X; A) C' q# ~According to a March 2005 inventory of Alberta construction projects, oil sands projects are leading the way in the ever-growing Alberta economy.
! x+ p% \# o/ b" o. H; }+ [The inventory of construction projects is compiled monthly by Alberta Economic Development( AED ). The list compiles all developments in the province with a value of at least $2 million that are either recently completed, under construction, or planned to start within the next two years. As of March, 946 projects throughout Alberta fit that category.) }. t$ ?0 a' R& }/ j! p) }1 N, P; Q
Of these projects, oil sands construction accounts for $69.25 billion – the largest component by far. Suncor’s Firebag Phase 2 in – situ project, Millennium Vacuum Unit, and Voyageur projects are listed among the 47 oil sands initiatives. Projects by Syncrude, OPTI Canada Inc./Nexen Inc., EnCana, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., and others round out list.
