Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
( ~3 T# G7 G& T+ T. X/ A/ [Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule# |4 a; B2 e9 u1 o. u I1 w# G4 k
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about* p! Q8 H. p. {/ i
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste. o" g7 C- @: H2 O2 w# }
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;8 l- W6 T! A( y) Y5 m/ p2 l
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
, J+ Y- R- A2 R! `2 O& ^0 @/ |* m& y0 I6 R* n5 |2 v& t$ N/ s
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips: P ~, p! Z9 e; W3 p4 ^
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates, I8 F! V/ ]! Y- z" z5 r u' o/ f
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:% i( y( }; S" K0 X
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
* ^# e: b! {8 j. `resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
7 A: `' U8 u+ n% j% \! d1 himportance of composting and recycling.4 Z. G2 A4 N% E' q6 Z. }9 ]
* @9 l& [0 Q0 ?% @Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
! v, j% [! Y* `$ ~8 G6 ~. L- d- \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;5 n5 C3 ^. M4 h8 O* Q4 d# ]
public education display booths; assisting with programs and* b- p# U9 B2 M4 w* h
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at A. p2 y# T. }' ^! ~* l/ f
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
