Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the. ]3 J1 S$ e( n7 F
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule5 k% E5 H2 ~, S/ F- J7 n
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
( N$ _, ~$ N1 C/ R$ cenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
4 k! S, y+ f |! omanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;4 p, u& \& R+ r- e; v$ T! a
vermin-composting and residential recycling.

* R: K& o3 |' M7 bThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
2 h* J! r+ w! b0 V# Yto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates6 |7 S' @8 j! X* r5 b( ^
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's: P9 t6 m0 ?% x6 S- a2 w3 o
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
9 |( s4 a0 ?: @+ F0 B4 O% K1 O( dresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
# Q; G% i3 B9 l$ G qimportance of composting and recycling.( M, E6 h6 H. K: ?) z
- }3 o/ X5 l0 e- q- d8 S/ Y! e
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the9 U7 K" U Z9 H, Y' X9 [3 x( t
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;2 k# ?8 U1 |/ h" G
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
' t0 I- W+ u+ `maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
; O4 f4 Z# ]" d: Pvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
+ n2 f# Z5 i" ]/ P/ ?1 a: xpresentations.

+ r6 d" F* L4 _9 wThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and# [8 F9 M# }- M3 j
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the% m0 }4 I3 n- M1 ~
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your- R" ^6 l/ T ?7 ?4 `* q
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master1 ~* J4 }1 X: ^) S8 E! E
