Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the% w& u5 w" K1 a- t
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule! F5 `3 f1 H8 X# c g/ }5 F
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about7 i7 L" h$ R) B' v2 r4 k
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste2 D! T4 d' p" ?3 V9 R
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;& }+ \4 t: h7 a0 L( y$ e0 H, ]
vermin-composting and residential recycling./ I* i+ z3 c- ^* ?
4 {+ B& ~* n5 I9 l! I4 NThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips1 }, Z4 h% I9 I0 B, ]3 j; A: V
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
5 Y, B( K: U; o2 a% ~complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:* {5 B" t6 o& [5 ]3 k ^3 X5 _
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important# f# {- ~/ ^$ d; r0 N& W4 C* y
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the) G( |" \& h% V) s% o; @
importance of composting and recycling.
& P4 L# h9 F" ?( m! N r3 f: ?; \$ G9 p! v& f* R, F: n
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
/ d0 S$ x- {4 e3 w5 ?! u5 LReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;+ Y* x* ~1 ] T+ n- Z* K
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
2 q8 Y' k, T! E3 K' imaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
0 y, f) z' e m+ g( S4 C: z- hvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school6 G2 F( Z! c9 {* L
presentations.7 u) j& Z+ o) w! j5 J
/ R6 d. t2 s9 S IThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
/ r7 E. f: A' G0 Q7 E7 C( x# cvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
V+ n& b: s# Lmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your" }7 _& V r* ~. E. i
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
