Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!9 y( Z, L% V" {. n$ |

8 X2 Z7 V* E& t# y5 D( s1 f: W, IDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
; |# w0 ~! N& ^' T& f; v) t7 wMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
8 ^! ]/ d" G0 L# B(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about0 V1 F% Y+ i4 ]2 d0 z @) Q7 @& o
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
4 o1 q3 X+ f6 E; a% j- { q; Kmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;. P6 c G+ @" |5 W
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
5 |: ]4 w, A- D4 u: Y3 C$ s* @) Q& @" Y' J
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
) l( F2 c5 H1 Hto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
" [- E+ _& |" S8 \" }) fcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
8 a5 d' f' d/ F. |reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important* Q- P: C1 z& d' M, |) Z% q8 V
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the+ H L- T4 k' ?/ J0 {9 c
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the% |: T- g; F' ]
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
0 Z$ x. Q4 w$ c% S2 ~9 w- k( _5 Gpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
( I" q! w& e0 z/ ]* L) gmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at8 C3 L' k8 t/ t# L! ], l& r
various demonstration gardens and general public and school0 G: ?0 A1 r% y3 h: y; r
presentations.. ]; e1 z. S x$ _; H! C# z* p
) N. U1 D' N& }$ Q% a8 t- z/ PThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
+ \/ J G. l5 A3 K+ z; {( l" Evolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the: `/ ^) [" A3 \: ]
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
