+ _. U, G1 g& [$ h! r3 H. }5 NDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
' s. f- ^5 i) N# i0 E6 A6 J7 i& ^Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule7 J7 z5 G( e$ v8 s- K
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
, }9 m( F! x+ E4 W7 U6 X# Senvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste# I$ l+ f. l# `, H1 |6 f1 H' g0 k
management; home composting; household hazardous waste; ~4 N/ B- B' m4 \8 g# @/ g+ `
vermin-composting and residential recycling.) F) w5 s, T ?5 k! M" d4 j
1 d% O3 w6 i4 U1 s$ r g
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
% C5 M2 a5 A) ?1 H5 sto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ C& }' _0 g3 \9 S! F' Acomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
& {3 l+ b# l( ereduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
% A3 i3 X5 z. r0 m5 _- F1 uresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
1 X: Q* s0 K) K% x( w: Ximportance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' v8 c( \" ~1 A$ M! S1 l9 {Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;' [: R0 [6 H2 o7 j
public education display booths; assisting with programs and! o, k8 X t7 P& Y9 W6 m. X- f; ^
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
3 ^6 ?( d0 [/ [' O+ h; h4 evarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
8 [, I7 `( d4 I! Gpresentations.0 h& {7 X, {6 q* e g, q

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
3 f$ W1 ?, F6 c/ Y3 z7 S( Y, n1 evolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the' y. N- Z0 x8 f7 M0 z
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
