Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
# |% k0 m7 N; S1 {4 x" l9 r* n* lMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
$ y4 }. `3 }$ C: z4 m; w; R, V: S(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
3 y. B# o$ N! Eenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
9 `' m* }5 \& ?9 k9 v4 _management; home composting; household hazardous waste;8 N3 Q* Z. t; ^
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
! s. e; ]0 r9 e# ]. N
7 l7 l6 a$ g7 h9 h- C: \This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips! p. i% ~ q5 _% S b
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
; Y$ F9 x% v! V5 Qcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:2 t, s$ G) \6 V* B8 e, j/ G# D
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important( }5 \! a% z* n7 Y) u
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the! y6 b" _0 P0 ^+ j1 p0 m. h" Q* o
importance of composting and recycling.! K$ J) G+ P4 U. y; E/ e9 o3 h- q9 O
8 b0 F8 A; |/ c0 H! uExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the) ]9 W5 O( V, E7 k% x! u0 H+ L
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
; M: b, a* Y" Vpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and4 [0 h `" H1 K. Y K
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at* b" D3 k1 }" L' g( e0 ~
various demonstration gardens and general public and school0 B5 [8 p. v( Y) Z7 D6 {8 v
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
6 `! D7 O4 E) P7 u5 Uvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the8 D x6 }8 k' Y4 x' P
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
