Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!# {( o h( b( F

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the! Q* F( B- L) n' u9 F# P
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule, S% @, j! B7 D; R
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about% A. F3 H% t& ~9 j- m
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
G7 l& \2 Q @3 U( f2 amanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;& @8 v. L$ x( I( n" m! d- T Q
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
2 z0 W7 t5 J; Q0 z" u- L1 r' M: T$ b& [7 e. S9 `' D- I
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
* M* F! a' {! l# fto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates# {" [8 c- W' m4 J0 U) w3 a9 k6 [
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:" k _( A# e% R2 }6 u
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important- C5 C" v) ]1 j; h9 q+ ?6 U" u
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the3 d. a. Z2 Y- J- y
importance of composting and recycling.
; q1 p! h, W0 a" |9 ^9 l/ x( n% @9 c' P, u0 H- |' u' M
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
/ J# H. T) x( K0 g4 V4 \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;2 t& _' m7 T5 s2 R
public education display booths; assisting with programs and/ g1 h( _& `% ? d# @/ ~. M* r
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at l/ v# J* Z3 d/ l: }# N. t" d
various demonstration gardens and general public and school: E, O2 ], r! ]9 @" z. M% T
presentations.
" p4 x5 O# w6 _4 c! ^9 I8 f! p5 `3 V. }/ o- T
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and8 `$ M' R: ~0 ]: |: Y. i( |
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the& r$ v$ x% ^7 h" ~* K1 n
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your0 [! n; K+ [5 N- s
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master: Y: n4 X" \0 q0 M* r8 ]
