There are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009. ! g) K- i# h) @! \/ D$ f. b- N

- v D1 m% `: M9 x0 R; NPayment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
2 ] C; Y" x" U2 W/ T/ R7 X! }9 o 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.8 R' S0 h& r2 t% y8 n; @# K
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.* |) e4 B' r5 t: A
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
