6 j7 r$ F; S: RThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

/ r' H" q& E9 \" ~Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

# T% O: F5 T! ^/ y( b) o5 P 1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
1 w% t5 v3 _2 u 2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
3 S! o+ @* @8 r) m% Z 3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.( X; l1 L6 C( q
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.9 o# X7 R F' q9 ^. Z
5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival. |
