Duties
- W! v' ^1 H( B7 b
9 e% D" _* s8 s  s' P    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
% |# c- V8 v4 d, G( I    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group) B! ]6 V' y7 a9 |, ?- }% P) s
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
& h( v5 t6 C2 C    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
1 @6 ?0 g) r/ l+ E; x    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
2 e5 [6 U5 a5 o# A* k* D9 r! b. f    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses- @, L9 [5 _# y+ V, {- [
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
0 v- l- ]0 P0 D' ]: u0 m    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
4 b  t3 x/ z! ?1 \0 a/ R    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment" s' t( U4 O$ }5 l% \  ]
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
* s4 E" c0 T/ G& A    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs; T* y  w* A7 o: Z4 m
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
% ~  q6 ^/ ~1 q& J* P- w  G    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
$ N2 }7 A4 _! f# {) u    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools9 O3 i! M9 x2 z$ P2 n4 M

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
( L6 ^- c; E( w& ~7 L    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth7 a$ L! o3 h# k* q4 T4 V
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
  ?  n8 n! Q, {    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
$ Q& x" X( o: T5 [; d0 q    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
! u( i1 E. ?: M9 X    * Fundraising skills an asset/ w2 c  O( {1 D7 o" M
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
* r3 t# l+ _- F: f    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills

    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
