Duties

3 a3 _7 @! }; L! ^    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region; y: O" [5 S+ d5 ]8 a
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
. P* r' q5 o/ o: |    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators3 j1 |! W2 I  i' C$ ^
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
: m8 I1 n' V0 x  d    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
0 m# T& {+ S+ K    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses" L8 R. l# I2 h/ T
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
& e3 N! G( j6 h    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
2 B1 z* |* ]& E" e  R    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment6 L! c9 `7 c2 p5 F( y" i
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
4 h$ I/ e3 S" d7 l    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
7 g4 n5 [- H, q8 R/ B    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly- \% c1 M0 i* E3 b, K6 x$ r8 \# Z
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
% j1 E: |, r! R8 H& A    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

Qualifications
/ Y5 g1 Q- N' `: m* o3 V& y$ F8 I+ K' V6 a
    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
2 w, G, C) C6 G' H) P    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
' p, v% M. F8 K( F0 P9 ?. c    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
% e& u4 T0 ]+ L1 t2 Q4 d    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs* J+ m# B  j8 n+ V1 O
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
; D& I0 {4 ?7 p1 r+ B8 m& i    * Fundraising skills an asset/ O5 p- m" H( F+ F( L- a
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills1 Q5 ?: q5 h& {1 Z0 f3 Y8 {' @
    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills' b1 L- Q) H; q2 W5 I$ c
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
