As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. * }; p2 z* y& g) o* _: V. N! @
' G& E; j# [$ M; f
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
; O! J. L/ z8 D•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
1 s+ y& P% P' w7 x" u. T•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements2 J0 y! Q! y# ]* ^2 p  o
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
! n; v. p$ F7 ~' `9 Y6 q( i' D•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
/ w- ?$ O; ]: c1 ^3 R* d•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
- t; @6 ?) A0 \& U•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
5 x0 v: C; ]; C8 F  p  v6 A7 t•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience! g  X& \3 H: W+ M, `: J! \
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
8 f" A$ q, n! Z9 Q/ I" @•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
  x/ n( @9 W$ W$ @) d•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies3 c) V9 e' q4 r$ f" v
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST( e3 q! Q* ^! T! ?) i2 X% W
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills1 e- H2 B% W3 a; J+ W' s9 U/ z
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Salary:  $27.00 hourly9 X) P1 F; C& T
