- H( g$ }6 P7 }. f2 z/ JThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.
% Q  @9 c9 j, d" d: n, B1 u4 d. h
Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
+ ^. m5 ]1 o, V4 R$ Z+ i  ]" s• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
; y- Y3 K1 Q: N1 j6 ?• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
/ Z6 D* m7 F0 i# }  W, l- ?  @• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

' o8 B3 G! ?7 W6 C+ L8 O0 }8 nCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

8 L: S1 [  e* g7 W; s1 L' P: l* @7 y: K0 }This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
