The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

+ N' u. F( [1 @  W7 a2 iResponsibilities include:
1 V( k+ C# b8 J3 i, u; A7 S
' Y" z' E( v+ B0 g( Q# o+ C1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
1 a2 Y6 N$ U( V  t, N• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
& }! T$ \/ P, t. W5 n& O# I. [2 W• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

8 G+ ]( D: }. V$ o9 s! r( JCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
