The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. 2 x* E9 G$ y5 x/ u

' Y" z' E( v+ B0 g( Q# o+ C1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)4 a5 L/ [( d4 t7 M
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department0 [: ~/ H! b. {# t# t+ V7 {
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
1 a2 Y6 N$ U( V t, N• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored5 a- i' E% s, I5 ]" m
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
& }! T$ \/ P, t. W5 n& O# I. [2 W• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.' D; C5 }3 I: U2 ^

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s): G' i* b, [& k8 J/ ]7 f
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 6 e- {. H1 {& {: ]
8 G+ ]( D: }. V$ o9 s! r( JCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required. ' R% @: r y j1 ?6 G8 T$ e

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
