The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will3 }. N, `) O/ }1 I/ g
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based+ B h* x7 N7 G9 h3 j
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day6 ~$ Y& M. d! O' i
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
& C# T/ @1 t. p! K. c1 L3 [stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
# V2 L1 |8 R0 t, w Y$ _0 QYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
# q# K( i$ P- @( {# A3 smission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve4 _- H8 P5 t; ~ Y. u
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the1 U$ k* A7 c; @
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
. r' d# m- N" I" a5 G8 Jnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve' F) i' P6 b$ Y: ^
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose! ^7 b8 M" a7 M" n/ B
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment, ~# ]: k( L: E5 z* \
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and1 H7 }8 V3 H/ b: s" j% H
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and z; T$ C9 p4 @& X& I: K6 d& I- U
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
f5 L) r" x# t3 r" O# d; D+ @: R6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
; B% v; ?' t7 C% r% @0 uThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
?; _. P1 C/ X% _. @4 oYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.5 z; d, H& Q- g; T3 M
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of: G5 {" w- j' H8 Q9 z7 ~8 z7 ?! g0 I+ q

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
3 M4 ]' N' j r& Scommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
8 `4 B2 b, M* N7 k- C. Hwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities- S* }& `& ?, _, {) H: r, P, M" s
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as- z- l" {8 F: x1 H* D8 W
being realistic to each youth participant
8 B: _+ I9 i6 |# @' A1 d• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
1 W$ ? h1 @. r( h4 A% ~youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
& d8 ?7 \% X; K, n5 ~each participant
. E. B' e9 v, \# C• Assist youth with employment development including the development of8 J+ ?7 A7 j2 B! y. M: W
cover letters and resumes etc.. f* O+ k* ?* W0 ^& W. j3 k
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
# Z+ d7 \. c+ M: W6 T/ }experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
3 M6 o( B n2 aplacements
& Z, E8 {, o' L* h• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating3 J9 z. y$ B5 p) [
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
9 Z3 i7 j4 P$ @. K• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
% v; k( l* m- T5 v% S, s# J* ^is being fulfilled for each youth0 V; n& E0 M( S. F4 o
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are: `- z8 j/ u0 S
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
) D g: E6 K$ G• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted' M* {; d& V- R/ T3 K+ {: _' d
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.7 N. ~# c* [! V" ^
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
