The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
- e( C4 B0 D. Tbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
: ~1 x% O) h$ _: Y( _8 U+ {employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day' j4 n) ~; T5 O4 q( K2 X
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
* z/ h% o5 J) o& d6 f0 K1 {3 u" w4 m' kstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
* H1 E! `# H4 [2 A2 c+ S; E! b o" _* yYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our; _" K1 X% }0 q( z/ p
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
0 Q6 Y% m" X8 i2 A5 K+ s& Q$ r/ gconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
2 U) n' _, |" LVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
, U* O8 v/ V: m+ G, \) I! w9 Anecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
' [# s! t: Y8 ~; ? m4 g, r- |youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
3 k4 ~+ S/ _$ Pparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
5 b# t7 c5 W, l5 n/ Z" Xdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
6 Z8 B$ h K$ sexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
+ C, n) Q7 W/ Mwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a- b2 k9 f& R- Y% J0 n
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
8 X3 ^" i" \( L/ w/ d PThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central2 ~" L% q8 V5 [( ~- k
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.8 X" O- ?! d+ x' O
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of- F# r) u- m, l0 S( |

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week): {/ E. q E9 s' N
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
. o o/ Q8 X( O# B- ?, u8 }, T; rcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are7 G$ R1 A. F% Z( ?- k
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
( A' Y* d6 I( n• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
, d4 C6 L' H+ G. i* _& B0 obeing realistic to each youth participant6 [& Z. b2 D" Y# f$ R
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
1 O' X6 s- J7 n" }youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
8 ]) _, ?$ k! `( ?7 P0 v- ~+ r+ feach participant( h: n _4 y0 \* U2 G* z+ e3 R
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
6 e' v4 P' w% x) r! `9 w& W& fcover letters and resumes etc.
: ~/ B, L) K; z• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work2 s* S' i0 c7 A- B7 ^! X2 ~
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
- C+ i4 S7 S' D( F1 [# S& iplacements
3 ^$ E5 `7 i3 E2 u: N0 c• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
7 |; s7 J. \. z; Q' U% Rthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
7 e( ^% K8 [! `, Y3 y# q1 N• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach( L/ N f$ G8 S6 L
is being fulfilled for each youth) t$ O5 g6 v9 u: |7 d6 u2 H5 e
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are, b5 J: w9 _- s7 e
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project7 e* b! H/ Z- f6 ^
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
F% O) h2 w% u8 nExperience Required: Employment Developer8 k; j8 O; F: ~/ a7 f
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
9 m* O6 D4 z7 q0 M" P% ^5 Y A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
