The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will3 D3 F- M/ r& d- Z
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based& H& A# e! _6 f& C' h) Y1 m. A1 y
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
% r) V0 J m7 S# F# [) U$ vprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that% `1 w1 A) f1 Q
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.% g: p9 ^! v/ E' ~$ X9 i. Z: i* M
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
1 `& v1 r& a( c, Lmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve0 c% K- F% |* R$ r- j* K, Q
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the& R; f0 b+ Y1 g2 S/ I3 k
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills+ w: T& _1 t9 j' |: \
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve) s# I5 j+ Q4 N$ o+ V
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
- d2 O, ]$ ~ `! Q1 _* U+ n$ x lparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment3 J' ~: z" T6 W* E* `
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
! @- ?7 w4 U: B8 E& J+ Y! Cexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and# s+ E, M0 Z$ p/ s$ J& I1 ~
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
; ^( B" H8 R7 \# e$ z6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.+ Q2 k' a. ]9 K) m. @; w& O
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central; X! o/ V; u" Q+ }9 b
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
T7 s E' H0 r* {+ u4 q+ xThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
4 t5 X# \. K! K+ Y8 Dextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

9 U' h2 Q# r5 }/ s; F4 a- KEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)1 P( C1 d. p, m! }
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
) B+ L6 Z5 t1 m& y+ gcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are8 G! q& O# q( ]9 I# _
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
- U% ]7 ^6 I8 o0 a' X• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as; r$ A! z3 v' |" r
being realistic to each youth participant; R4 |5 B; {0 A: h
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
+ a" h! T+ m a7 Kyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
! Q! b4 y! J8 _! g3 Ueach participant+ G2 v( m: x7 ~$ z& H7 F. `4 k+ Z
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
( W: j7 f0 W! s4 c- z4 C4 Jcover letters and resumes etc.
0 u8 A) |% m6 h; M% e• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
* f- i$ S8 B5 _) ?$ A9 V; j5 hexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the/ n4 ?3 W& S* E0 {- `! @
placements
) N; [: l6 D. v5 V, O4 O• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating" u' D5 q# x8 j% m5 |- O* d- {
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
1 j [: K" Z4 E1 G" P+ b6 i• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
$ a8 [" c& j d1 I- y2 w% zis being fulfilled for each youth* t0 n; i4 |# I0 l" @& M- \& ~0 _# I5 a
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are6 f" _- ?' _; j" Z
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project5 L2 A F$ k" C
• Other tasks as they arise within the position4 l$ c/ C1 G1 j; ~4 t) }4 f
Experience Required: Employment Developer
, I5 b4 o/ t7 ]" z" X7 f; [ Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
; s1 G8 d0 n% S3 i! {- P4 ^ A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.+ U7 z/ G: {8 _4 Z, v3 s
