Does my boy need a passport or visa for him to go to China

Hi,
I am going to go back to China at the end of this year for chinese new year.  My boy, who was born in Edmonton, will be 1.5 years old.  Do I have to get a canadian passport and Chinese Visa for him to travel to China.

快去办吧！先办出生证，再到CANADA PLACE 取表，填表，找担保人，交表，交钱。走之前到大使馆办签证。
