Does my boy need a passport or visa for him to go to China

Hi,
# K, U. B+ X. o; `4 t' A+ bI am going to go back to China at the end of this year for chinese new year.  My boy, who was born in Edmonton, will be 1.5 years old.  Do I have to get a canadian passport and Chinese Visa for him to travel to China.
