Position title: Community Development Worker

Position Summary: Within the broad guidelines of Immigrant Settlement Program (ISP) funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and Alberta Employment, Immigration & Industry, the community development worker coordinates workshops seminars and activities.  This individual reports to the ISP program manager and provides support to all members of the ISP team.

-        community development, liaison with mainstream agencies to provide services for Chinese community
( k- u7 [0 c$ b- K" X" h/ z-        workshops, seminars, activities that give Chinese population access to mainstream services
7 j+ l1 S9 i7 \5 Z-        fulfill needs that are not met in Chinese community in terms of social services
-        develop good working relationships with mainstream and ethnic agencies
7 |; }7 f  H; W9 |, B2 ~# {8 H-        coordinate good will activities
-        coordinate and send out quarterly newsletter to members
1 F' T$ J# N) u& e$ b-        submit information for community news
! F+ C& A5 J6 G3 u: n: q-        prepare and send AGM information to members
8 R1 X  H% q' w- T3 a-        assist in special events coordinating: Open House, AGM, Volunteer Appreciation, etc.
$ U9 q# y! w! D. p  t; g6 @1 Y7 S4 X-        participate in ISP department and agency meetings/activities

-        demonstrate team spirit in achieving vision and objectives of Centre
& E% Q( ~5 _8 A, l* _5 |& Y-        participate in external committees/conferences/workshops related to immigrant services
-        assist in writing proposal for ISP
9 h7 f, n3 I; h+ z0 u-        write quarterly and final reports for ISP
7 c% @/ Z0 V. u0 l) |' f9 |-        explore new ideas for ISP
-        hold regular meetings with ISP team
* ?7 v( Z) g) B# I4 u-        assist with Centre’s other activities or programs as prescribed from time to time
-        update membership database

+ {/ K3 d- N1 B3 @$ t* W-        degree/diploma in social/human sciences with 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent of experience and education
-        good oral and written Chinese and English skills
-        experience in community work and immigrant services
# h  N- D$ E5 C1 D9 a0 I. t1 Q0 z-        ability to coordinate workshops and seminars
