& b& k, J# B7 c5 y# ]- d' f# LEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

; b: D# r4 z, @2 w•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
+ }4 U" c% C( X3 p) w$ S# f•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
2 f' _8 W  d6 \0 N5 q•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 |+ p5 O0 d5 {# D" |( `•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
& g4 I1 Z, e0 G( {•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
0 M4 o! Q6 @3 b9 {! [/ e4 P/ k1 q•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
: @; `( S- m5 }4 _; ^  p+ Sshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
/ h* G3 Y2 R: ~  x5 o2 V) kvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
2 w/ i' S& U* a, n, t- [•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
+ V8 G, D2 |1 V  i4 QVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
4 E. |* d+ s8 \  fTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
