; t( q# P+ v6 t# s8 p- sEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
4 b/ ^- \( @) T9 n5 P0 p4 f/ Q• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.5 r: }( ]; K) r, D8 d v/ D q
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.% q8 B0 t0 b$ M9 Z! K
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.1 U7 s6 K# Z, K" q( u' S7 [8 G
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

. x- n& s" a B/ n/ lJOB REQUIREMENTS:
) }5 @( V3 ]* W5 J7 P. |• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ h1 }) q6 m% U- ~! P/ A& k- P• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
) B6 c8 R4 w* x4 g# h+ h+ N! ?to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

$ Q/ ^; \- q2 \; L1 R# g3 ]• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
& S, c0 E6 X8 _2 a" ?• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
/ \! G# c. L8 E/ D+ U• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.8 q! Y' u, T7 x3 b8 C
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) / c% p+ M. ]5 _6 {* O) g: C
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
2 C% R4 u& r- p" Q6 o• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, `) d2 x1 ^$ |$ K @( ]video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
- Q. D) P `8 F9 j% S1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
( k$ V. [# g- M2 U4 o9 O+ n0 q- ]Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004
