Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.5 C0 w; w G) H: J1 _% x3 y

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" D) a: B. \( s$ l* `# T! e+ M• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.( [; B% [2 W3 r. [$ T) M
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
! K: U8 ~" y" ]1 [. @& H: M• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
# Y5 U; l6 j1 u% a0 Qand traffic conditions.

• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

( F; P. @9 d6 |7 z% q3 ], l: x( G! j8 W5 S• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset./ _! B* Y" o7 T/ `) a
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability & g1 T+ e2 R4 A5 j( [$ N# H
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

1 P4 n4 m' W$ A. s• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.)./ }( a2 e0 V: c! e
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.+ e( N5 {' M n, G [6 `: s
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.2 Z+ n6 q" n, s- p- Q6 k& e
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) . W6 |; j" o- n0 S+ J# L
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
0 ?6 p* J* e( ]• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
" _: ?9 T6 ^. r i' Xvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).+ N# p$ e. ? C- {5 G7 O3 I
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
l; \7 m% z! m( M* K0 h) g• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:4 t# f2 ]4 y3 _+ d$ c
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
5 r; k0 h: R- B$ x, u1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly! B* o( y0 P* g+ m
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly! f$ d. ^, h: R- z8 q2 K6 C; w. s

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 . J0 N$ X& K: ?) e$ h" C- s& `- l
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly5 }+ ?% G J! L# q$ M7 `0 e
Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
