Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.$ q* o4 X% H0 y- T. x: @; K; X

) V! y2 ~8 p$ j0 ?2 s* M• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
1 F1 U( @& k' l4 M+ S: f6 n• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
8 \9 F7 y6 _3 u: {1 ]* W" ?" D. z# S# D• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 M* f; `0 [0 w: W5 W; v• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 0 Y9 k- m8 p7 H% y' i N

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.% s* H) r. c X5 ~$ z6 n5 R, j
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability , z" `3 S' m) h/ g' J' ]
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ) m+ R* J$ r. x# Y8 O6 r

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
. }- g$ y- B: L X* o- L- o. K• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.% A5 ^" R& J4 K& L |4 B
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
( P1 W5 C7 Z1 @, N- S: Y ^* S• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ; ?# y0 ^+ w0 \ D- N
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ' ~2 F+ V Z& j1 w" n6 a( v" f/ ]
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
; p1 a. }; y- @! L% Cvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).4 N+ t* j9 d7 a& I2 S# m
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.3 q5 Y9 h6 [# [. U* _2 B
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.4 T1 t( o5 a( N# ]! I

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 5 l4 M3 p8 T" z# O6 A0 \% N
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
6 L0 m8 \8 p5 ? M* h+ W) [% PThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
