Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
/ y% Q! \0 s& z. ^• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.9 l& X$ o ?: y0 |6 ]
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.6 Z" @: H3 f& f3 k( V6 [4 v
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ' x+ M: L" y1 Z' Y3 T
and traffic conditions. / G: s, v" ]& F
• Adhere to schedules.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; a: T) d8 a! q0 `- Y
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
9 j6 d |6 M. c• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! k: a' `4 Y% N+ Q• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.4 ~, z; H1 C. k7 q0 `
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
5 N( Y9 z3 R! |* Q( @7 Q* H. F! Mshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ' }4 o8 e4 Q! C5 ^& G
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
( b1 n: z; n/ N$ K7 dvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).0 z8 y7 B6 P6 }6 y3 n/ @$ b+ [" y

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
