Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

; y2 p8 t% h {( R• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes./ r* W9 @. q( M, B/ c0 U, Y# T
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
% m; {2 n3 U* o- G% N% W, d' Z% O• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
0 B4 `, _0 V$ m: O& ^( h• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather ! ]2 H- X; l \0 l

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

4 Q. A3 W4 u5 L! {! I8 }• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
5 D8 n8 ~7 N& B! g% T. L• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years., |7 b! _; U! ~! b" A2 P1 b
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.7 o2 }: [+ N! r0 L6 f B
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
3 L" ^) `, f" X9 kshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. , b2 s) C' K5 a9 Z
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
: P3 B2 e* r6 g. }5 |video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).' W3 T4 g) d, ]% p4 N
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.4 F: d- Z) k8 k* o3 J8 U( S! H
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.1 c% f' O9 F/ A

HOURS OF WORK:
3 O* O+ ^1 E; r& `Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
W9 D2 @5 s; w! v1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly; n# ?* `( A" f* D4 r
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
