9 m- X& {- o' X2 f( w; F% K) R: SJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
& u; x; A" y: E) e& ythe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
- \, [% ~: O8 V2 E2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
3 R/ b/ h6 \. e- CCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee    v6 i: O) |. d
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
# v2 k3 v( S9 ?! L, V& [' R! I8 C2 @year following their appointment.

4 h. a# D' q3 a5 hDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:' N+ X# I% a' t7 d5 m

/ s3 h; D, F9 W# n4 u1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
# ]/ _3 N) Y5 T
4 p# ^  e! x* D; Y% v9 K. O2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
$ C) i/ S$ T! f# w+ r: i  L
8 U# r4 Y$ j* O9 m8 G4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  ( o* v# ~, W- D0 {
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  & f. L4 V6 a2 I! e: E
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.
5 o& u# s* Y+ v; R, c8 ~7 r/ `  v8 J$ k  V, x. @8 N7 D
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
) F8 J) ?# ~/ a8 Q) Preferenda.
) h; _0 I3 R- a! S! ^$ @% ~* A" f& k" Z4 {& w& z0 x7 R
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  . {* q2 |/ m2 S6 n$ G
parties.! h8 c  D9 \( `

6 h3 H) v; a9 Z8 t/ t. ]7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
% V2 @8 [! @' z; F4 Yreferendum.7 N. M% t1 Y# ?! j! _8 m7 s

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  + o. {/ x# d+ u% G* b: R
Bylaw 2000.2 M& d/ N2 @% ~% K: }. E" O

. f8 L4 }6 S, W! X: s$ R) J# `10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
1 Q0 P+ p+ d( F- fminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
7 T$ C. e& ~1 b2 f  ^  sfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
" R, W7 ]" h  Qof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.3 j' Y0 j1 j& e: v
* z  s* a  D4 C; l3 m. `
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
  }, K# j2 k* b& Y2 j; R" fthe course of an election/referendum.  d$ R7 s2 D2 W. p, P4 E' ^

! X. d) V* x9 z0 X$ h1 w' z" _$ l' L12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  ! t! y+ V" |) _' B3 i
process is in place.% a# P; P  O; S8 e+ w1 p

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  ' h1 G- p% n, N
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
% {7 K! F4 @6 _8 W2 @of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council    S. H+ c5 n5 o+ P/ W- o# y2 s% ^

QUALIFICATIONS:
% S, e+ f$ m% a6 {3 x0 U* d8 ^
( \1 j$ _) _% S& g$ l1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
) E( N  z  r: e$ n, @for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
# g# Z7 `9 l9 s9 q3 c& yUnion member.- G/ q4 L0 P% _5 H
- Z7 o8 X4 n! m8 m& A0 Y: t
2) Must have some experience in student elections.: ]' O0 m2 p1 p4 ]) ^4 I

8 `: n4 d0 X# i+ d8 G* p9 P3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  + \' g( I* `% p0 n
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  . ^8 n' ?. U9 ^9 _2 ^; Z
with the Students' Union.

' s0 k6 X- {( Z4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
) a" ~( v8 Q0 |) H3 y( K3 X1 Q) B7 P; A4 l+ p/ X. t
5) Excellent project management skills are required.1 y' G6 C! ]% v# w$ i) k

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
