JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
4 g6 k* F" W: o2 R5 Ithe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
$ v+ r1 w; u& U2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  7 a6 b$ x0 H  f+ B4 B$ U) r
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
5 x" P8 U5 b- }) H( S6 W: R4 P2 zStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the

* Y' k/ M: I: M& eDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  x9 p; h0 v, j. j# |1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000' h3 S$ s, }. ?: x, \* [5 j# V

- I0 q8 @2 \2 K! j) A7 S" N2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.! b( r( `6 _7 h

( r; @  m& X% T3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
9 b8 l- m" G$ N% R) m; ~0 Z. o8 t
  ?! g3 r& K  o. @% n$ l4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
9 q* k0 M* S( hadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  9 E! T6 ^1 S  I8 ]
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.( ~5 C& N0 F( t: {" i1 F5 F3 f3 Z

; U& U, M5 |. y6 J+ }/ U# h3 ?" G5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ 1 R$ P! h9 _2 Q  O" {
referenda.
) S5 ~2 e5 q( u* }( l7 Q' z
) e+ @' e8 v' O3 j+ G' \6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  + ]' Q- \& Y8 G& f

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ & M2 R: o$ e8 A4 O  b. J9 R
referendum.

. P4 [9 j( ]  ^2 k To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
3 ~. q, D' A- c. Q/ |8 ^9 sBylaw 2000.

) ?9 O4 V% j( r- o9 B: R1 S10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
; m! W5 W; \8 N2 C( e" n: d  Jminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  5 y  x+ r8 F. G9 X* w
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
+ U9 r7 w! T( eof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.' @) c& T% _- z- w6 S

: [9 u" Y+ V" b% ~, z11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  1 P6 `7 k0 u; q1 X' @: K
the course of an election/referendum.7 h# D4 d9 K$ H! j4 G/ R2 \- f: M; W5 D9 `

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  " G! {4 B9 t' e' F8 q

8 J0 w* i2 U8 l& S  z9 r13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  $ w" |$ u; u! y& r+ E
of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  / w! H$ `  K9 J8 o
of campaigning." X& s' H2 U& [* B; a3 z& t

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  5 Z3 t$ X. ^$ b0 d$ ~9 k* E; H

QUALIFICATIONS:

% Z2 P1 C% r5 S* m# x- m1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
3 |! U8 I- Z: w5 Z& j! N- {8 F0 ~for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  . p+ m1 i, e! Z* x
Union member.
- i+ Z* n# ]7 F, m) B9 K. K  m! K) c( |( ^6 R) G3 U: K
2) Must have some experience in student elections.. |0 y) v6 b4 N: @% M3 y
' D! O9 G8 }* h' j/ g: u9 e7 h% a
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
4 a  Z0 c# Q8 x) W+ k1 j0 H# |any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  8 {9 ?2 n0 V( z2 e4 m3 G
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
