CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER

Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

% S$ d( g7 d% g  r% uJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  6 \5 i( ?7 t# s. A5 ^9 v: s1 U
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  * U& |! _4 Q  ^  j0 B0 w
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  + Z- V5 L0 t0 O! A
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  ; `& s8 S% V9 G$ ^  v4 E2 U
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

$ ]: ~% ^) f8 T& s4 h. B4 a1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
2 O2 }! G$ @: G9 J% I. x' S% C" o- C$ Y5 G+ @5 F, W- `+ n9 _
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.! v7 z  o, h0 z0 C
* R( @  p% T$ M7 _& }; F0 i
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

) ?) T, J4 I. Q; ?# f" ^4 g* K0 I4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
# G. d/ k8 q" \3 `+ X7 wadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
7 J- j' J( ]; e$ @3 B8 [& {0 M" zacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.' N# A" x6 U- t& O  ~
* o6 [: K+ i6 E1 z5 L/ g, }) m5 d
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
4 k0 m8 u( }0 H) O  X$ _. wreferenda.
) _: s4 }/ [+ m9 `: c5 ?% g$ I7 P# B2 N; L+ J: x) R& c* a
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ; b& v0 X+ O1 s* ?+ K: p! I" X

, G/ K+ _8 w: z! z9 ^7 }; V7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  % v$ E7 d$ \$ a/ h
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  0 ~- a4 }7 t6 X$ q3 {
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
8 q# w/ c3 Q4 {1 y$ D  F! j& Zfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
" U4 v, N) P5 I4 |' Cof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
, v4 |/ P4 Q/ L$ V( J8 I+ B6 n& e$ `. k- K/ i
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  9 l! E2 R& F5 @& D- ?- F
the course of an election/referendum.

5 ?+ F7 a# u. B+ T3 Y12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
8 T- e  n4 @7 l3 {* Eprocess is in place.' |0 [7 s! g" G9 F. j

, Q$ M: l7 y1 h$ W& g) F( b13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
0 r$ j; n5 e% d% kof activities and recommendations.- O7 j) f6 }- o7 K6 y+ U

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  8 x% g# f5 M4 R* N9 _* j& r
of campaigning., p# O* d7 d/ p6 O! r& w, U

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  ) s" b+ o& S- b8 _8 V. o

QUALIFICATIONS:& ?+ f8 q9 l8 Q7 m3 p

, P0 H" t# B' F) v$ t4 d1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  3 {4 p, E6 R+ [; ^
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
; e8 A, F8 n& f3 ?3 V5 H6 ]' w$ GUnion member.# s; h5 H9 C/ }/ d* O/ Y

1 M8 r3 f1 v+ }9 O! v2) Must have some experience in student elections.
5 v( E: [2 O6 {. {- ^3 M
3 \1 j1 P# J- r" H9 u: N7 u' |0 U  V3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  7 o# n6 ]; j9 Q9 A+ Y3 }2 l
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  : r: J' j9 M9 x
with the Students' Union.6 v- X6 y2 |1 Z9 g2 j0 ^

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.) K; H& @" A3 b7 f

5) Excellent project management skills are required.+ b3 A/ ^4 `( J
