/ W7 _8 {$ ?1 W. g! U+ d6 ?" kSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

2 A: M! M! d' t8 S$ q8 k•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
" @8 n  b7 \' u% W* O/ t•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
. K1 ?6 L0 L  b1 \4 F" P) H•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
$ t3 m, U; [' W& S! M•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
( V% I: }$ L+ \+ s, t5 s•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
! C+ Z6 H' v- L: ^•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
0 S3 ]& K$ q  iRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
3 d$ v0 W( O) w$ J  l•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
* Z3 B( X% ?( P" b  Q•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
( p) k! o9 `$ S  }! q8 X$ j  J•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

9 ^# M3 Z; I, d•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
7 h5 A9 F% v/ k; a8 a•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
* u8 p5 y0 ?0 y0 T) n•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
7 o9 P1 |, X( T( r# {•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
% m  B% F8 z" ~0 ]7 V•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
6 P' W8 F+ M9 z5 o# F+ sSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
