+ {% c5 N/ O7 v  }, ?Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
9 \# p+ @' a8 U) f0 W2 ]: BDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
3 ?) L: l9 b( [6 A2 G8 u" J•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
( v( E! r' ?; k* u* s0 z* Z0 A9 v4 i•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
% R6 [; k% C3 ?0 b# F( F' cRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
: x  t7 i" k; t0 o0 N6 O: }•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

! Y# W3 ~6 p3 r" }0 S- R•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.

5 H& _4 ^; z- ^; r% IFunctions of all positions:
! c( U3 |* Z2 k6 g  [0 g) ^( A•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
" B% {7 R$ E6 e# P•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
! _( Y6 D$ ]- oJob Requirements:
# Q% b2 K' i, ~  U; I+ c•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
+ a: U+ s7 n6 S0 f•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
. w- C+ j( x# {( Y2 A6 y  g( B•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
8 c1 L* b! o9 T# Z•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
% z6 q; _# O( T& s8 i% ASALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
