# ?% a A6 S- ^Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
/ o, X: ?6 i& i: Y5 b( P4 N" DDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works% D6 v& K- W; d
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
. l0 x0 ~1 c8 p3 }6 g• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

X• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

, w# T" [7 ?# F5 E• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ) K( L- f( k9 n& n6 j7 y. P1 z$ @" v) c
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
$ w" O& P; G7 M8 d) b$ ?6 k( I+ C: n• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.6 Q/ O1 }, f" D" q" T
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
! o" I$ {/ M2 k5 {8 G0 Q$ }4 p" O• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.( Q! s: ~5 C% s# r' C T
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
( _: c* v# R# k- w: j `/ s• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
+ Z1 X# s6 d5 t9 O• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects. V4 J* Q- b3 Q* L0 E% S5 ? P- k& z
• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.! f) }. Q/ c8 Z8 X
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services: J( S! r4 H" P& d
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
! y% C; H2 R8 O, |$ {9 B/ Q, |4 F• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.5 t6 i2 Q2 m8 ~, s1 _
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:% ^0 o( P" z+ v1 M! W4 B1 ]- M
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume." ]/ Z9 a, v9 s& D5 h9 [
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume., ]" A( E# `! d, R; V
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment., h0 s& `) U6 K4 x( K
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
' Q& C" ?; E5 g ~ N j• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
0 x! C+ r' \2 f l. P• Ability to follow oral and written instructions./ ]2 L+ L" |( d1 `) ~& P
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
/ h: T8 @9 i+ V9 G5 m- K o& }2 KHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
5 H+ h4 q4 B3 a; p9 o$ P# o QSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
