  \% a, a7 i2 }/ F% h3 YSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
, }, b( X8 `. f2 v* cDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
; I$ D, r  e. d& B; B0 p•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

# r( ~2 D. y6 [, C•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
0 F. A5 z" }7 S, r4 t: G•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
. e: k, G3 S) H  Y6 v+ a•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
+ q! N- A" ^. I% E, pRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
% M1 d& @/ X2 {, ]( c•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
# |6 K9 `5 }) t! d4 a•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
- K8 F2 X& p& g2 w•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
; ]  x4 [" y) d# q  N•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
2 i! o6 r# j* z9 _  A•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
  r1 W1 g# ~* s8 W•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
5 x6 O# `/ C* S0 |: X5 I* Z•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
$ V2 g* T5 G/ H•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
" z& _8 r, S; p4 y•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
( Q; \9 a+ w$ M+ ^5 T# Q( w•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
