Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:1 ]7 P! |4 ?* h: @
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
4 q+ X! ~2 I w& k1 d• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
9 e9 _, `4 m7 ^) i2 G! @3 P• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.' S+ L% i5 Q0 ^ C9 |
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.4 @: R# C0 z* O4 i5 `# h1 }$ h
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works4 u' s0 C7 j$ Q+ F0 h: e! Y
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
0 D0 s+ N, B& _0 D# O8 S& t• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.! q7 c. k5 j- D! F& S) q
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.6 @: s$ L* B" |2 R) Y( t4 w% x
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
) |/ o7 K7 k% l• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
9 t( u+ q3 ?) R7 V3 I" E• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services% F& r* [8 d l- {' j: s+ l
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
% g; ?2 n6 |' a6 a1 a7 @• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.+ v8 C. { `5 a; ]# a8 I; a6 C8 b
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.1 t4 B! e- ~! j$ N+ c o# Q+ s' z
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.+ `4 t( x. l5 a1 A, }: h$ a
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:8 p0 x) m( G, s
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
8 m( @, M5 k& K: S• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.9 N. |3 v' z5 ]
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.. f7 x2 r$ w! J/ a9 f$ O+ B
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
, D# h/ W: e% m% H: j& l• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.6 L9 J6 u) C" u9 D% F
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.7 q" ]" }3 _: ^% R
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.7 d4 f: `* q5 f u3 G5 D0 J
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.9 D6 y9 c; c7 l2 e5 N
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.3 W6 L2 O1 z& s0 \! Z; Q# l1 y3 t. P2 N. s
