Today I was volunteering at a post office. A man in an old jacket with uncombed hair came to the counter. He had a wallet in his hand, and put it on the counter. He told me:

9 L! e3 \" A3 c5 gI did not understand what he meant by "it", because usually people would send a letter or a parcel back to the sender, and I did not see he had any of those. So I asked him:! h' b- b% L* K( U; p' F
"I am sorry, what are you sending back?" & N4 E, k( x. c4 B) `
He said, "the Wallet, I am sending back the wallet." Then he added: "I am going to pay the postage." # C* g# q" W: m
"Oh, you found a wallet, and you are going to send it back to the person who lost it?" 6 t5 [9 n- \! G! p
"Yes, I did."9 Y* O* s. @: ~# z2 d3 T' `( K( V
Finally I understood: this dishevelled man found a wallet, and he was going to return it to the owner by post. 9 y9 E9 ^: ?) B4 n
He took the ID card from the wallet, and showed me the address of the loser of the wallet. I saw there were several one-hundred bills in the wallet. 0 y6 ]) L- g# N; {7 h& N2 C+ z
"Are you going to take some money from the wallet to pay the postage?"
. F" c3 z% P* y& l' l w! ~"No, I am not. I do not do those things." L. D" j& x7 }! ]6 ^
He took out his wallet, which was nearly worn-out, small, and almost empty. There were some coins inside. , c- J, }/ p4 S, n4 F+ l: t" A B l
I gave him a bubbled envelope, and instructed him where to write the addresses. He wrote the owner's address, but stopped at writing a return address. He asked:
8 o# M& d! @, i"Is it okay that I do not write this part?"& u, J) ?, O# P& e4 Z0 U
"Yes, you may." I thought he must want to be a nameless hero. But he said:! y; N' e% J5 e0 H0 h
"I do not have an address."
4 a# S9 _4 F' g% Z' aI was surprised: "oh, where do you live?"1 t- E: ]$ E O6 e- F
He did not look up, and said: "I do not have a home."3 A/ j( P% |6 |* r7 M! Z' P
My heart had a sudden jump. I realized that this is a homeless man who found money but was sending it back to the person who lost it. 7 r) u8 N+ t7 S, Y# W
He did not a posses a home, but he had a big heart. He had the precious fortune of being a man of integrity.
