我很佩服你的好学精神，虽然大多数国家都执行国际会计准则，但每个国家在本国会计准则的制定上都有自己的特色。

+ T% M3 \( C( U3 }/ a在加拿大，interest income 直接记入revenue，interest expense 直接计入 operating expense.在“income from operations“之后，是 gain or loss on Disposal of Assets,然后是income tax 和 gain or loss from extrodinary 最后得到 net income.
( g9 v" [+ F% L4 A  A醉酒的问题是他把operating expense理解为操作成本，其实不是，它是指你整个公司的运营成本--维持公司正常运转的成本，而gain or loss on Disposal of Assets和gain or loss from extrodinary 都不是经常发生的事件。
而且不管是加拿大、美国、中国，对于投入的所谓"CAPITAL COST"都是需要提取折旧或者摊销，而这一部分，无一例外都记入 operating expense

I still think the operating cost and the capital cost are different things. The operating cost doesn't include the capital cost.

Here are some information talking about cost of oilsands development from the same website. It clearly indicates the operating cost doesn't represent the total cost of oilsands operation.

This does not include the cost of upgrading the crude bitumen to synthetic crude oil, which makes the final costs $36 to $40 per barrel for a new mining operation.

Ok, let's put it this way. Say if all the oil in alberta was extracted, nothing left. What will happen to these giant truck, huge equipment for oil extraction? They just destroy them right away, or just give it away? No, they'll either reuse them somewhere else or sell them for money. So the cost of these equipment will come back to these oil company somehow. Other than that, the depreciation of these equipement will be count in operating cost every year. So operating cost does include every single penny spent on the oil.

* m+ Z* i& U2 P, c3 B/ U! RThere's no problem that you include capital cost in the oil price, but that's not exactly the cost to produce this barrel of oil. That's a price which the company can gain back the money initially invested on the equipment, even before they sell these equipment. So if they sell oil at this price (include capital cost), when the oil is taken all out, although they didn't make any money on selling oil, they can still sell these equipment and make money. You see what I mean?

8 T: d1 F3 I. s当然，这些都扯得老远了，只是有人老是提油价40, 亚省经济萧条这样。其实石油公司做的也是战略投资，不会在乎今天明天的油价，谁都知道$40多的油价就算能出现，也不会长久了。

! m! B: j( T; n7 O6 ~: Q这个帖子里的所有人都一样，知道历史数据，但大都无法获得公司的实时财务资料。现在油价降了些，以前的财务报告就无法准确预测今年的情况了。所以大家才在这里讨论油价多少的时候油砂项目才能有利可图，从而间接知道石油公司会不会亏钱。

& P) p& n. @( C, A8 s* q所以给你的答案是，大都没有实时一手资料。如果你有，能分享，将十分感谢。

我只会用历史数据推测。如果你拿不到实时数据，但又要基于实时数据预测，那不是空谈吗？

shell canada 的网站上有5年的年报和中期报告。

如果油价降了就不能预测，那油价时时变动，不知道那些经济学家们是否都时时拍脑袋。某公司的实时财务资料都是绝密资料，哪里有说想要就能拿到的。

争论opreating cost的几位可能理论知识比较强，可能缺乏一点实际经验。captical investment，包括升级和新建项目等，有很大一部分是人工成本，而能够折旧的只不过是部分的硬件设备成本而已。

! i+ ^+ ^/ s5 l7 [2 Z我不得不说你还是错的，因为在工程没有完工以前的人工成本及利息只有两种选择，要么进入当期费用，要么资本化计提折旧，没有其他选择。
其实，opreating cost 通俗的说，就是指盈亏平衡点，否则，石油公司公布这个财务指标就没有任何的意义。

看了SHELL的财务报表，没有觉得有任何问题呀。

# _; I  n1 t( i如果你不准备往CGA,CMA,或CA，方向发展的话无所谓。如果有这种想法的话，一定要记得把这类问题REVIEW一下，因为不管是中国的CPA,或者这里，这一类问题都是属于爬坡题。definitely 要考的。

% U( G( A% L: k  Xcost of good sold can include the cost of everything shell sold (gasoline, diesle, heating oil...), which is irrelavent to this topic.  
Of course, no one can predict one company's future performance at 100% accuracy, just like no one can predict the oil price.
But at a given trading price of oil, we can definately predict one company can make money or not, and for a oil company, that's also one of the bases to make decision whether to expand or not.

I don't know your point, but I never denied your way to do the analysis, I think your way is good actually.
I just wanted to tell you why we use our way, it may not be good to you, but everybody else here is using it, and we all think it's worth discussing.
