　　North country scene:
                                                                                               
, f7 I" a/ L% ~" _8 Y- E- s　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

* W; X8 P3 G9 {6 S9 U/ _* i　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

( J- W) c4 \2 z. J* ~3 ?" u* y　　One single white immensity.

9 g* I) @! p9 U1 o! |7 Z3 p　　The Yellow River"s swift current

　　Is stilled from end to end.

$ f+ a1 `' ^) R/ n　　The mountains dance like silver snakes
. K/ o0 v* x& R- Z1 h/ `: t* y3 X
　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,
$ Z8 j7 N9 S5 i+ E5 e( Y. Z1 R
　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

( I: P  O5 o* g8 ^& w0 A　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.
* H" R% N2 d$ T2 W
+ w  m1 A' x; J, T% d* W　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

　　Were lacking in literary grace,

% U% S+ |' q/ M9 o7 V' \! N　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
7 A2 o- L" Z- Y' `9 K- O　　And Genghis Khan,

　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

! x1 E+ `5 M& U$ ~　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched

　　For truly great men

　　Look to this age alone.
