EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

% E/ N0 O/ ]: g$ w* B' TThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

h5 \( k& K: V$ h: a# tPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.+ L k' m$ V( j( n
; L/ O! I' ?% c2 W) K"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."1 Y) g" J5 K) P/ _9 u; e; h( r
