Anything related to water frozen in basement is a serious issue, it has to have immediate attention.
Few minutes work if just the safety expansion valve leaks ( most probably only the valve) 2 ?4 j/ P$ g8 n0 \6 A/ a$ U; b# a
Close the main water inlet valve; 9 e K& F5 @8 F, v( Nopen all faucets in the house including showers to drain all water out in the pipe line;) I$ P$ F4 R) m
Close the cold water valve to the water tank if you have one; + t: w1 h8 w8 s3 zShut down the hot water tank by closing the temperature switch to off;2 e" E( `" m+ K9 ]
Open the drain valve at the bottom to drain all the water out;5 d. Z8 H3 f ~. m
Then remove the expansion valve, go to home or Canadian tire. they all have one.4 F: b% N* R/ R5 u* u. H! O

The drain hose is supposed to have water go thorough the humidifier filter inside the housing and then goes to drain when furnace is on. 1 z4 t' {2 f, Z! i6 t2 g$ @" E6 i7 P8 R3 p! f( D/ y, ]" H
If there is no crack at the housing connector, just re-do the connection when the furnace is off.! b" Q9 g$ |' P2 r5 Y- _
