% a) x ?! z4 u0 X& P; p3 gImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.
! Y% T% Y) J! q2 o& t4 _! b1 X' s' e: O0 o
In the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items. ; @+ k, w; N$ m/ t$ F" O H6 a
3 l- J' b9 e7 [ o! e+ E“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. ( ?* J# k e0 M! M+ N5 b

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
