Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
+ ]' D& i; a# N' xnot do any of the following:
! ]8 z3 P& a4 ^ s+ h a6 j(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
1 H6 B8 G' s5 d8 T0 K9 pvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
/ q- e& ^, ^( @- {8 m: p* E(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
% U$ \- n) k. b1 z0 Q& Uvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;4 ^& y" l, ?3 y; p( a2 `
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
: P( _$ t8 z0 V/ h w" [permit another person& H9 K' X; K/ X7 k
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or$ S4 R y0 t, G% l7 Y4 Y
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,$ b+ o$ n& c2 v3 m3 Z+ E
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; t$ p/ a8 T8 s- d
(d) give or lend a financial' k& O3 ~5 }4 x* L
responsibility card or a copy of it
/ {, ~5 H/ V4 z- }6 yto a person not entitled to have that financial
W& r( q N$ K/ O( \, U1 Z9 V8 z5 Gresponsibility card or copy.* y7 [7 G& y7 A6 q, P

* x& O3 ]/ f) e% N8 `8 g4 y7 YIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
- ]9 ^4 F3 U+ S5 n+ V, b/ f, \without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
L6 h7 b, E+ k6 j' Cthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection# g! ]6 Z* t* L# Q# T
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is+ U* ?: l8 H4 {: f$ d* W+ C
not an insured motor vehicle.

1 a) N0 |, Z; O6 L( uIf the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this+ \! F8 @* o+ @
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this8 S. n8 W) H9 A- ]0 X; M7 I- I; p& `
section.

: ^/ r3 ^; ~9 \Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
- ?5 v, Q N- y/ `/ \financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
2 w) T+ d p; s: ^3 {+ D/ f. ioutside Alberta.
& s: r' _; M# g7 D% d$ @6 A5 v(4)
, h. w' i" }0 L. K8 dA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
, m$ k; i9 y& w$ P0 \! s(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,' f2 u, D9 T% V9 B O& Q, j+ U
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
/ ?& _' @! S0 D& Hand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to% n; O& w0 X j; V, w
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not; \+ c0 S' ~0 C" w# ]
more than 6 months
* W5 z2 a4 G! v) E+ y! m3 E% Z/ T
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
