Insurance required

Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall% B8 P. [- B9 W0 t
not do any of the following:
7 G/ o, u! ]8 w0 V2 r% Y5 ^/ o(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor( g4 `5 }" v9 l6 P( {) m" a
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle; j; t n9 Y3 c" Q$ _! m1 G/ T7 K0 t
(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
* C8 Z% J) b7 {) Mvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;" M% Q, C( @/ ?* o) v
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,. z, ?" p6 d! B/ A# M1 {
permit another person& ^/ ^, A0 k- t
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
8 h+ v( C/ t( u& F2 X. I(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
5 P8 a S* w- Munless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
$ U: @, C. O$ W' j A% ]; g3 @(d) give or lend a financial) v+ l& t+ }0 B; n4 H
responsibility card or a copy of it! v; @: y1 _8 E8 {# r- v9 N. z
to a person not entitled to have that financial

without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of
( ]3 F8 D$ `# c7 Qthe vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
) s7 o+ ^& a& Y& Q% \6 Z7 H(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
) d7 D( g- s+ [' I: M* @not an insured motor vehicle.: v: J9 j Y; b5 {

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
3 M* W; V' A4 V! ~Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this9 b4 }+ X8 a* H/ ^

' q& c K- o7 t6 u' x. R( T# sSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
, k4 a+ ~+ N( p; j4 X, X& c. {financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the- _+ e6 f/ P* R: Z( d3 {) V7 q" N
Insurance Act
5 o; `0 C5 X" G9 m6 {) jby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
) E7 L' v3 W# e6 I" @ Doutside Alberta.
- R# _- l3 n3 N(4)" n0 I% [ T6 L' `- } D' Z+ s
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
! V- P5 Q) {* o) \(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
. X: G( D- R! ^* b$ A0 K(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25001 r. `+ \' j& L0 d3 C1 w# x5 v9 i+ l0 w
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to: g1 d. N; @0 J" d# r+ ]
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not7 C6 @& X) s" @( X$ G4 F2 f
more than 6 months
) e2 t2 x, o6 c2 S1 A: A8 tMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
