! m* N0 `& ?* Z" O8 |% v) QExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
$ _" ^5 R. }+ p( m( ~, P) y5 Q* w) z6 _not do any of the following:& g \9 B9 u, U0 u; X+ y
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
5 W$ W3 O) L- f9 D4 Z! o1 c/ I$ tvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
7 S- u4 u/ Z& q4 o7 {* c2 d7 n(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
( y1 }9 d& H" i* h) Tvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
R& g3 I! z3 a5 V4 b/ y(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
. K# E0 \/ e( `8 c# ?permit another person
# n5 w5 M8 A* ]- c, { F: X8 ](i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
; L/ i+ U, n' b; ~* C(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,, B$ d4 f4 z" {. ]
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;! t/ Y3 T1 M7 z7 L; ~/ Y
(d) give or lend a financial
" y' f: r2 n; Y0 I. rresponsibility card or a copy of it8 ]6 K/ ~* l' j* g6 G9 E6 t
to a person not entitled to have that financial; S: f5 M" F" }+ o- p: t* F
responsibility card or copy.
: ^0 m7 R' F3 T(1.1)' `4 B4 o/ n, ~: k* ^$ h7 B$ S
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway$ m5 `& } C3 O' G& O$ b
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of0 j5 X5 ^& j% g& Z! p
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
1 c0 s0 _6 U' d' |8 V/ e1 A(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
$ A% A, C h7 N8 _: l: V9 Inot an insured motor vehicle.! ~1 F4 L" i. g' o8 X9 S

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this5 k g! v: g N( D
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this& O) U5 `2 s; o2 l5 R
section.

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
( P+ a% ]6 t. V+ n, ?financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the0 C- G, z* \# f7 v4 n7 |

- H, H$ O" `1 aA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
' H8 O9 L$ m% N) q' {(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
, s. G3 n( [, I: F3 S- d+ L(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500 x) A" m9 e& t) ]) E$ V
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
' e% L$ [; d. n" Q" j8 g) r$ P# s" cimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
8 u' y1 X! f4 dmore than 6 months
& {9 H( ^* S0 U/ {) v8 ~9 n6 w' H5 y. S, e3 v; ]
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
