- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations7 w2 H7 q9 A, _ G2 U1 }
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces8 k( k) e" U Z3 V0 u6 S6 c
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planing, drilling, precision grinding and other operations2 l) T; k0 Y. C/ w' R
- Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products
% u/ L( u- t+ |- Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together7 f4 A2 k3 v$ w9 @2 y
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools+ i4 O7 P3 @/ F- J+ e; r1 A
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments

Required Qualifications

8 A/ i/ R5 L. J- Completion of secondary school or a minimum of eight years work experience
1 c$ `" }7 [9 V @: e i- Completion of a four-year apprenticeship or training program or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining
" `6 {; W! Q& Y% F, l) ^# N- Skills in programming, set up, operation and maintenance of machine tools5 y6 r+ l+ A, M8 G" x/ w: z# P
- Proficiency reading, interpreting and identifying errors on shop drawings* o& |$ @0 ^$ }
- A strong understanding of computer assisted drafting and manufacturing principles
" S! P. `4 P1 m2 Q$ Q3 D/ A- Able to work with fine tolerances and use a wide variety of measuring equipment
