Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3
* \+ N/ Y. B: Gmegapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution/ O6 r" L1 ^' W" c9 U# _4 j7 [: Z
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color$ r7 F, r6 U* \* F0 c! Z& t' o
matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance
: }2 t5 [ o1 _/ Y0 X; N- cin low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D8007 ~9 [2 q) O. D5 b) o7 _6 x4 j
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject4 b, B& l3 B* u# D; n
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
7 ^5 U/ [) j& |% _2 O5 d3 Zwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum. b* N7 s+ \1 b4 L7 X. l" z; L. a9 R4 v+ ^
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was6 z' |4 l' W z% [- Z
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
7 a- T. U8 f4 F5 J }7 ~convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown: D/ H2 m; r; N& s/ B+ {! s
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,' E+ T, s- g; M) x4 Q
thanks to the D800.
2 D! B/ y# @) {: r$ kWhen I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,1 b& o+ b& C2 o# F- `: d
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
4 D/ k- i, X& t1 T) K2 r6 ~& q" Grange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces d; o# g' u, N2 ]
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a% T' G$ Y+ R# R9 j0 O
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as) j3 {, Y2 l3 Y n7 n
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
9 l" a/ S7 W+ m. DAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor/ z; X3 q2 Q [0 G
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
. i' e3 b/ K) m7 ~/ {1 a5 g' Keasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
( C& x# u" `4 ~3 Malso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New/ b; f! w+ q- a+ N5 w0 I2 q8 \
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
+ x& W; K/ m% Q; M' ~in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality+ S! k8 G: E0 l9 N
prints and video.: j$ X- G( j: |) n L
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is8 P* e% M4 }, b2 Y
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
7 G% I5 ?$ h% j eare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
4 y3 B; X0 c' h tcountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
/ y* H/ {7 _1 Z% isight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
2 } {/ ~3 r* f) H; f' |like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of8 Y+ z9 ^( l4 w! j) L
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
0 l& o! M4 V X$ lam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as

photography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add

D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express

As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
: ?5 P0 H5 |! u6 qcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal+ d' c- W. T6 B3 a6 R
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for0 m/ a2 }4 c) G7 {* K; M; ?' o
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital

and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior# [, Y0 i% O% |8 v0 w) P
quality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for
2 J/ R @) W2 U. M9 y- X8 darchitectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they
: x/ z6 h- o* ?) f' z2 u# t0 E1 }2 operfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly
3 g& f p3 C% S5 p" n" Y$ Rclean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility3 f6 Q! _8 ?/ p q
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional6 d9 _" y6 v. j, m; a9 F9 A
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality: a6 [4 K' _; i( z( K
to a new level. What a new companion!
