Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance {: q0 D6 k5 i0 R) U |& s
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800: r8 s2 u8 I- Z9 {/ ^
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject* O) P. o2 s S V
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography& a/ M' z: ]1 n' ?
was traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum$ ]6 J! f4 A6 ~% o. E
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was6 u- C7 Q; j4 Z% N& `0 c
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
) Z$ P8 ^5 r9 o( W) P6 ?convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown6 e& d7 M8 E; S# H& R3 U& b+ I
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,- g$ _+ r& i* J
thanks to the D800.
% P: U; u+ [8 W; N# D4 R' {When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,& _( B/ q3 ~/ `& U5 X2 Y( x& C
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic6 s2 s% L8 e7 N0 ^ p' @( \
range, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces
/ G$ D8 C( M: H7 u2 y% U& T o4 s8 Bthe look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
, W5 |5 f! [0 d) E1 X* A9 j- ZD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
# l: N3 z9 g! w2 Kwell as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.* m- ?& y7 {/ N3 j3 ?# ?
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor" c, H- Y# A3 A
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is1 h# [; c v8 e/ t# l8 Y
easier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
3 t- w/ t! F Z6 q. N" Valso feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New6 p4 U0 R" w; S, {2 f* ^% _' h
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features0 V- @* z$ j, u. {+ i2 U/ ^
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality, K, z% B9 Y0 `7 f. ~
prints and video.
1 D) k& x# _1 L! ^* _$ @. ~) E- xTo me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is# r: R- {3 _$ ?6 s" [/ r$ P3 P
not megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models9 ?9 r3 \0 c. ^/ H0 w- P
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
! i( J' E5 P0 Ucountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first( a3 w: @7 b5 u2 \ d$ c
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
* x- V( K$ u2 M; k. L$ Xlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of
; u J1 @7 H7 I$ R, @) Wacuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I! ?- I! n* v7 z: j0 m! Y* d

tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the* Z( t6 e6 W; W T0 q1 C
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express4 M n- [' i( Z$ A' D/ I0 d8 ~5 f
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.

architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they

clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility* N- d9 f: p' ^8 r6 M5 }- n" E
to work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional
