Have you applied online? it doesn't help much to have a referral by somebody from within. Your english ability, university performance, good resume should weigh more that that. I had some suncor friends done the referral for several of my friends, it did not work well, that was the time when economic downturn was at the bottom. My suggestion would be: work out good resume, keep applying online. Don't give up, there should be more chance in the next few years as the new project starts.
