/ C( O7 U3 w) H: o7 W) p2 OPosition Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

* E  Q. V* u- X" @# W4 b4 ADiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
8 U4 }5 n5 v" k2 {! b+ V) b6 ODiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

Good eye-hand coordination
" I) B4 Q$ t& V  V' q* j) DFrequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations

Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
7 U/ c' n' b1 N7 P6 W* FMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
Visual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
