for Internet services. It is essential that I hear the views of Canadians- x1 Y1 `1 |1 c" ^$ o
on the issues that matter. Prime Minister Harper and I have been clear3 Y L0 L# c) C! J0 D
that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are' c6 g6 }$ k; Q4 R* O+ E v
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving' V* G" Y" D' p/ S Y: T/ B4 H
innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops
% b7 G. z m/ h& b' TCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
/ [( e* @& y0 {( U" l* L! Scarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be: D. g/ E8 F1 r5 t2 ^" {9 P" N- Q9 f
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
, m0 J" {0 b8 E6 uinvestment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing; G& r# [; t/ S( ^4 o6 ] v
market forces to prevail. 3 _" [9 f& i! A; K, N
; v9 L* |3 e# U! J+ h8 a1 TThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has/ `% C" W w4 \( T, {# k0 A
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
