This morning, Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced changes to mortgage insurance rules intended to ensure the stability of Canada's housing market.     ; Q0 R2 a  t# f" w- ~' A" S
; o9 j- N4 t- C* N; l  i5 ~1 M1 r
These measures include:
0 }' S' D( T2 `, U3 i) J; ?; }( n2 i, d0 \! I2 |% x
Amortization period capped at 30 years
4 W% k. e% g0 W( t  a; y: X: ?Reduction of government backing for home equity lines of credit 1 o1 w- b2 J9 q1 T: ]
Maximum refinancing reduced to 85% from 90% LTV * O! ^$ `$ @0 H- g2 u
There are no changes to down payment requirements as CAAMP recommended.( Y7 V* u& b8 @- p1 f
