爱城情侣轻铁撞死

爱民顿市周二晚上发生一宗罕见意外，轻铁列车辗毙一对年轻原住民男女。事件可能涉及感情瓜葛，凶案组现已介入调查。两个死者证实是19岁男子库特尼（Jamie Kootenay），以及19岁的女子帕普斯蒂斯（Delia Papastesis）。两人曾就读于城市中心机场（City Centre Airport）附近的原住民学校亚米斯威斯学院（Amiskwaciy Academy）。帕普斯蒂最近才毕业，而库特尼则在未完成学业前离校。据他们的一个同学透露，两人曾经拍拖两年。
警方表示，案发于周二晚上约8时15分，6个年轻人步行及越过位于82街夹113大道的一条轻铁车轨时，库特尼及帕普斯蒂斯突被一列北行轻铁撞倒。前者当场死亡，后者则被卡在车底，搜救人员花了差不多一小时才救出，惟送抵医院后宣告死亡。
爱城市警发言人奥德泽克（Chad Orydzuk）指出，有多个目击者表示，两个死者在遇事前似乎发生争执和纠缠。警方暂时未把案件列作刑事案处理，但凶案组探员则参与调查工作。
列车50乘客没受伤
他补充说，肇事列车当时载有约50个乘客，未有受伤报告。公车公司稍后安排他们乘坐另一列车抵达克拉尔景站（Clareview）。
介乎体育馆站（Coliseum）与邱吉尔站（Churchill）之间的轻铁服务一度暂停。
另外，两个死者的亲友周三特别到两人出事的轻铁路轨旁摆放鲜花悼念。女死者帕普斯蒂斯的姐姐兰德海尔（Janice Randhile）表示，她不能相信妹妹逝世的事实，在出事一天前才与妹妹见面，想不到竟成永诀。她形容妹妹是一个快乐而有爱心的人。
兰德海尔认为，发生这不幸事，妹妹只是在不恰当时间出现在不恰当的地方。

觉得不可思议，一群人怎么会看不到轻轨过来了，不知道躲着呢？！那东西来的时候路口有很明显的提示，也很大声啊。怎么可能是“6个年轻人步行及越过位于82街夹113大道的一条轻铁车轨时，库特尼及帕普斯蒂斯突被一列北行轻铁撞倒。”。奇怪。

One witness who saw the tragedy unfold broke down in tears as she described the moments before two teens were struck down.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was making dinner when she heard yelling, then looked outside to see a woman running down the tracks with a man chasing her.
The witness said the man grabbed the woman from behind and pulled her down on the tracks, then laid on top of her with his full weight as the train bore down on them.

“I just remember thinking, they’re going to get up,” the woman said. “Like, ‘Get up you guys, it’s getting closer,’ and then I just started screaming. He had lots of time to get off of her.”
