The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic   y, A- A* {5 ?% ]/ I& ?2 C
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead
# P3 d, `- @- J* \4 H: f8 k9 c, rthis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA . E* g6 R( j) I7 O9 z4 o6 P# X
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ( _1 ?3 t4 \# Z0 ]
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 9 b7 E9 ?5 i( _0 {& B4 d) E
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities % J$ a& H+ \6 }, X" {

% k5 j9 z9 @7 R: ~8 KReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
0 c0 R0 M: Z/ F( q6 E6 _8 D- A# E2 cexecution of the YWCA Strategy
9 S5 W! L* a% @2 I6 y5 ^ ; I9 Z4 j6 K- d* [! }! L3 B; y
Specific responsibilities include:  & L. E' x* x" M( b' Q$ a

  o7 e$ R7 H3 h# K! \1 @•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
/ b- l9 e% X, x8 W* R$ A- D2 Jthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
6 k/ j) V9 }' i# Ythe Board of Directors;  ( [5 Y! s* \. j. z, x5 D' j* `
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
$ N$ i# d: C$ ]9 t" j( Z. n5 `including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
5 U% f' v* g- a7 ?4 \enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
' j6 ?& |2 a% m8 z: c•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
& ~  E, b+ U# Y# ^* m" f) vobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
7 P, S. b9 [$ dthe board;  
4 Y7 j$ N' r4 S! ^•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;    V) T' z* v- o! y% z/ P8 O' C
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion ) _3 M4 e  E7 ?6 `
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 i0 c2 K+ z& v. d) \
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the 0 g% w6 Y/ h1 _0 V' g* `
changing needs of the organization and community; ; b2 \7 [! X) w6 E, F
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 5 E6 m* y2 K% p" V( |; x1 x
commitments;
* ]9 a; L, ^  Z- P* a5 E( o5 }•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  1 n  Y2 k6 E* w1 Y
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective + `" \. q& U1 @$ a9 _) j
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  ' D  [8 C2 O5 h: ^5 P" w$ [! P
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
$ ~5 u4 R  I/ |) X, w•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to / }6 h8 y9 L" T$ _' D. c  b; y
effectively and positively represent the association; 5 j8 ]. M0 [; x6 T! p
  H$ ?  e$ x4 `2 y0 I% m
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 2 i0 s8 N- B  H# \
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  ) ]9 K: H2 C( T. C% R
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
# \. S8 R6 z0 W' Q* I3 f0 ]performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
, Q7 [  N4 [3 @0 k, ^; U: h( Jthe forthcoming year;  % `3 j! X. }1 I  l8 h
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 3 z2 r0 Z3 h+ K# T5 ~
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
0 O5 z8 h* v) a/ s) I4 ~& d1 B0 K; tYWCA Canada; and
$ s$ @" r* w1 g# B' M& r4 k•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
% E% p8 g; o1 z& [/ _$ W5 I/ [Forces.

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
3 r& d0 l8 q& r2 H•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus & Q2 v3 F$ r  q# M, ]
around decisions, plans and actions;
& L' Y: h6 ?' J4 N. @* p( q•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % O( t' c5 T/ l9 b, F5 j' \9 c
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
) R! R7 k% D+ Sand achievable with realistic timeframes; : I7 ?: h- Z; C* g
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
3 @5 O- t3 r' Y6 g: T6 G4 F2 p' a( \simultaneously;
3 k( T% O  a- x•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build . q2 {1 a- E& d+ k2 F, u
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 1 e8 \# P( S6 c1 x8 I
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
8 g4 g" s. N( K1 h% h' n1 S$ z•  Superior negotiation skills. $ q, i0 y( p! k2 a+ Y# [

Required Professional Designation / Certification
# S; I! j0 R% A5 y. i1 u•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
  U, z6 n, R* f; e
: _. X, `: ~# o: \6 X& Z# }8 a$ t6 HRequired Experience 3 C+ {8 i/ T  y1 T$ u9 o) M$ X
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; $ Z* k" I# {3 ^' g6 Y
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% D. \7 f) _6 I- I. @abilities;
( y5 w# W1 _% W! t4 {•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 7 E- s# p. [( G) z' x
Networking and Fundraising; 2 u9 d7 H& D% V5 z  r! j% P
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
) H- ?8 C2 S' P  m$ l8 z# e" \and financial statements; and
7 U3 {' C2 D+ O# U6 y" }- U# C•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
' l8 k& h( k- Lcentered perspective. 7 o$ U: x( j! ~  Y! w* [
