The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic - {. J4 t1 s# I8 K+ ^" D7 F, K4 N) h7 ?
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead * C+ L, q" x. ^2 j( F3 l
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA
/ e" q) d9 q0 Q7 n9 VEdmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
8 J2 o1 W: e0 nsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA   T6 Y" q+ N; y  J3 i. H) d4 O3 a
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities & R7 p4 i* t+ O4 Z+ k% h/ Q
) s% C7 }" n  T
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
* F, A3 |" t# _1 D  y- [execution of the YWCA Strategy / Q8 ~+ B" c: N; y
0 b) K& U) e0 q: V7 H8 r
Specific responsibilities include:  + y. n! J7 A- {: H8 C
$ l( U3 f2 _- U& u4 J3 B  t- [
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of # F$ m+ k; G) z: z$ F1 z/ |
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by * J2 T1 K4 M( |$ d4 i
the Board of Directors;  
* W% V; i  s( o•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations * a) x3 @& Q% [! O+ y; ]6 R+ K
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
8 |4 _/ o! |% a& D0 aenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
: [9 [. |8 L$ ?" i; C2 {•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
; h. K  C2 j$ p( ~; x8 ~* f; _objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
* G+ E2 B# F' F  C9 _2 |1 Sthe board;  
* N! F+ Y1 k6 U  Q•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  $ \" [: a& R% @. p) U, G
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
. N9 K9 s' I/ g3 u8 lthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
: O7 d2 r9 y+ K0 J7 r, e•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the / [) u1 t4 o1 k, u( ~$ m
changing needs of the organization and community; 9 _. I5 p, ]# Q. H
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue / s3 o8 E+ }& j, Q) Q2 ~
commitments; ! r* C( L! B" K/ q/ [
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
& g: q& c6 C0 \4 i1 p•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 7 i. W/ V( v5 d0 [! W, _- m: A
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
& X2 s4 ]: p, f  j* v  T•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 4 {( k9 `6 K6 f. R6 D! Y$ A0 t. |
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
: `& t. s. X' e. Teffectively and positively represent the association;
1 l0 w) T* x2 k) Z. A
+ j$ d+ u$ J1 h/ Z/ I•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 6 D( {9 l5 O* s# r( @7 p
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
7 q* G4 e0 F: Y7 Q1 B•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
2 j% r% l5 [  ?6 \/ j( F+ Fperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED 5 k/ s  v1 V/ E* o
the forthcoming year;  
9 q4 q: a) j6 b, L•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 5 k6 H. ^! j" y2 E: G4 t) @
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of - Z; [6 k% G( W" f6 x% v7 o
YWCA Canada; and ( {4 I. n: P( \9 }, f# B7 w
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
9 k$ [7 A8 e0 q/ b1 {Forces.  4 z' R# p- N2 U3 g

•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; % _5 S& e' y9 \. u2 H; V9 [
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus 0 p: b: X/ o2 Y9 F7 k) U
around decisions, plans and actions;
$ }& D+ @# @/ V( _: W•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; , S+ N( A# @+ d  `( D
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable   m9 u3 v! i; g  h
and achievable with realistic timeframes; - e( X# x4 Z! T0 O" y. n: u
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 6 l6 _7 X/ Z. c( W7 j  j" T
simultaneously;
9 Y0 |- O9 }' y" u2 A& G•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
' V  Y5 ]( L) k* O6 b7 h% |+ I7 Krapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
( d* u1 z  r$ S: l+ Y! |•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

1 F2 R/ ~( |# C/ q' e Required Professional Designation / Certification
1 u: m' R  Q+ ]•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. % T! y$ q3 J" }. Q$ ?

2 B  o) g. x5 w: z: E$ KRequired Experience
+ B- e" B! B( J, X  Z. U4 [•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; : @" Z% n6 ?9 ]0 n
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
1 x+ ]$ a& O' b; A5 u: U* h. E, }abilities;
8 J. [5 b0 t) K9 H' ]•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, . U1 C' {. p8 s  ~+ x
Networking and Fundraising; $ P, F1 l1 [1 c% ?# R5 u
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 9 i) V* o1 W4 v* G
and financial statements; and 3 @* a, a, n. `$ q7 }$ s9 ?
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
) S$ e: g' @- T7 o( jcentered perspective. # |/ Q3 Q5 m. h: k2 Y. H9 P
