The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
' `; p6 x; V/ b# ~thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead " |' R# @, Q6 G( R# m* H
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA 8 N5 n% n0 J9 O. q
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and + ?5 @& V* L: x  C% S. ]! R! T( A8 s
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 4 y3 O- g; z9 }* o
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 4 F( M+ c. ^' \/ {4 ?
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities 3 y# i1 V& o) ]/ _1 n2 U

) {6 d4 M/ A  Q  N5 FReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and # O0 o6 q; p) p! J5 S% O
execution of the YWCA Strategy
/ I& P1 G" f2 T: K1 }9 _) Z
* r/ @+ R) }" I) C0 }Specific responsibilities include:  
# P# `. g0 h9 B! R+ e - R* Q, v9 C9 U* {. r+ W$ N
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
. H6 o1 g  J9 |4 fthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by 7 p4 b8 h3 A% w" J7 p; u) E% \
the Board of Directors;  
4 O- q+ _/ ?. X! K% s5 x•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations / ^# i. ~/ Y; d, u
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to & c/ F* j# Q/ Q. X$ ^+ G( T2 G
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities; & M( O8 M7 F, E# E/ e. B3 |4 X
•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 7 y) f, d! C- `; ]/ i1 `3 c
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
4 [' {! L& M& Zthe board;  5 k- h3 |$ M& \; Y9 ?
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# Y2 c7 Q4 I7 u$ {3 W  W* h8 j•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
/ S* H# j8 L" _& N" S( ^5 ]the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 5 @6 O' [2 `9 \( t
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
$ U2 o5 f; l; E6 g) s- {1 Hchanging needs of the organization and community; - \9 w* M: x, E1 Q# S8 l
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
, N* R9 h5 [! m& Q4 y( t( {3 U2 Kcommitments;
; D& h  s) M; V* ]* t. |) L•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
* f2 y# D9 c& N2 C" A•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 4 L+ d7 a7 {. K! I
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  8 T& [' n6 @9 n) e9 g+ A
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
! s' \/ e  o; ~•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
- L+ p% y( v! C- `4 |effectively and positively represent the association; 1 I& j" q- l+ V* n$ q+ {( A6 Y

9 ^# t0 j& w7 k5 O$ D( g# g  @•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
" w+ i: p& u$ E0 A$ f5 vthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
/ N* t. D  _: r' f# T% n$ d•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 3 s+ F* V% W* l, H. V# ^# X
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
- R7 v, B* V9 r4 r& |2 L5 othe forthcoming year;  
, ?8 p& w# O4 Y% ^5 V•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical # f5 W3 N/ j  S0 M% }! p1 p
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ( T* }8 Y% p0 L
YWCA Canada; and
" ~5 J* |9 p; M5 \: Q•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
) h' k0 p1 j! f4 \Forces.

Required Skills & Abilities
3 |  n! r& u" {7 B% G•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 8 a( k; ]% S3 D6 w: F
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
; h$ i! D, V# G2 W% b3 B* |0 Iaround decisions, plans and actions;
6 e& Q$ E% N' u/ B6 g6 a•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
: w* y  o/ f/ T4 L" d" ?•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable * a: _+ C" f: q4 i" P7 x: @
and achievable with realistic timeframes; $ m5 j6 K0 w, r6 ~" d6 b
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks 6 o9 W4 Y1 N8 j, k- N3 p
simultaneously;   ?8 E( R/ N' k8 D
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
1 q5 W$ j2 I+ `0 {3 {rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
6 x1 U' a2 z$ L" k' L7 u6 V•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

$ b% Y$ `( m8 ?# p Required Professional Designation / Certification 9 l! [* p6 H! I6 ~/ z* L+ L4 P
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
1 b7 Z! {8 w" w: Y( A: c2 j
) d+ w: j5 m) }( a; ?Required Experience % o; p' p0 ~3 e& y2 G4 a# R  B
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
( Z5 E4 K: x. c) \  Z1 @•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation / e& R- k( F& {- b! W) b
abilities; ; N9 K7 |' b: j6 R. o
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, 2 X1 S+ I; Q# m
Networking and Fundraising;
* U/ B# o: M0 S% f( d" ^7 P$ F•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting ( R- H* n6 c8 {+ m
and financial statements; and
/ ^2 S1 J4 f- \6 F3 C8 N  {•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
