给UA学生上ENGL课程的一点小建议

之前SPRING上过ENGL的课程,真的内容量比较大...
第一，对自己英语没很大把握,而且没很好的ESSAY功底的学生，建议你们也来个GROUP STUDY,我之前也和一个学生GROUP STUDY,效果几好,尤其有些PROF的TOPIC挺摸棱两可的,人多可以一起讨论.
第二,建议大家去CAB二楼找TUTOR,他们不是一般的学生TUTOR,而是给学生上ENGL课程的PROF,我之前和同学都去找TUTOR帮改作文,$20/HOUR,虽然花费高点，可是回报超值,我的TUTOR叫STEVEN,他人很好,我和同学2个人去找他,他都乐意教我们,还给了DISCOUNT我们,他讲解POEMS讲得很好,而且教了很多很实用的写作技巧,并且在FINAL前还给我们进行复习了...非常好的一个PROF.最后,想讲明一点,就是无人强逼你去选择什么,It's all up to u.如果决定预约TUTOR帮忙改ESSAY的,得提前预约,因为他们都好忙的...
第三,ESSAY TOPIC出来后,得赶紧去问老师,因为有些老师的TOPIC很不CLEAR,把TOPIC搞明白了,就马上去图书馆找资料着手写了,得赶紧借书,上次我就是在这里吃亏了,借不到书,结果后来迫不得已写了我不太熟悉的POEM,因为POEM的资料超级多.
第四,当你的TEXT LIST出来后，有NOVEL名字的,赶紧去图书馆看看有没这本NOVEL,我上SPRING的课的时候,就发现有些老外学生很聪明，她们去了图书馆借NOVEL了,这样可以省些钱,不过不好的地方是每2个星期要续借,而且不能在书上写东西..不过用铅笔写,到时候察掉也行...
NOVEL只要作者名字和书名一样,就可以了,听那些学生说,内容都一样的,只是有很多出版社出版.
第五,一定要多花时间,紧跟着进度,要用功...对不明白的地方,不要害羞,尽管英语表达能力可能不是那么好,也要积极的问老师,把不懂的地方弄懂,因为你们都教了很多学费去上课的,干吗不充分利用资源呢?
第六,上课一定要认真听讲,最好不要缺课,因为可能会有突击QUIZ,如果你没来,就是0分了...而且老师很喜欢卖关子,在上课的时候会提一下他考试出题的方向.比如我的PROF就是说他会出SHAKESPEARS...结果真的就出了这个.
第七,FINAL复习的时候,尽量的全面一点,我当时FINAL就是没做到这点，结果老师把出题方向重点放在PLAY,我还以为他会像MID-TERM那么出POEMS,结果PLAY没复习好,会很亏的...
暂时是这么多了,祝大家顺利通过这个课程,因为每次DROP的人都挺多的...一定要坚持到底

我没在这里上过高中啊...当时上这个课的时候,我们班由30人最后只剩下22人...中间DROP了很多学生,尤其是中国学生DROP的多...而且他们是第二个DEADLINE才DROP的,学费差不多3500,全都没得退..所以才写这个出来...希望对大家有用咯...我也是刚刚过了这个课,我平时成绩和班里的平均分差不多,就是B-到B吧,可是一个FINAL把我拖了下来,FINAL应该没考好了...而且FINAL真的很难.所以最后成绩出来是刚好过了这个课...当时我找了大概6次TUTUOR,TUTOR给我改作文,是给你建议和一个修改的框架,从头到尾是你自己亲手修改的...当时我也比较懒,3个NOVELS都没什么时间看,我的TUTOR最后说我,如果你不看完NOVELS的话,那是谁也帮不了你...最后终于强迫自己看完.按照TUTOR的建议去复习这个课,效果会好很多...

当然如果你比较幸运遇到一个很好的老师,也许你就不用花额外的钱找TUTOR了...我当时的老师是个PHD,我几乎是一节课都没听懂,他说话语速很快,一些很基本的东西他都SKIP了,比如如何去分析一首POEM,他从来没讲过,所以我根本看不懂那些POEMS,后来我找了TUTOR,STEVEN给我一首首讲解,他讲得很好,完全明白...他在FINAL前一天给我们复习的东西,是很有用..我们大概是猜到了FINAL的ESSAY TOPIC,不然只有3个TOPICS那么少的选择,要我选一个,真的很难...FINAL的时候,我前面2个TOPICS都没看懂他到底问什么呢,我的PROF说过他FINAL的TOPIC是拐一个弯问你的,如果没理解好,就整个ESSAY都F了...而且原来FINAL的时候,遇到不懂的单词可以查字典的...这个我原来都不知道的,当时我看到有老外去查字典了....

找Tutor改语法，还有sentence structure之类的是被准许的吗？还有要去找prof 他会帮助该改句子吗？还是就给你些idea的意见？

well...the writing centre office is my prof's recommandation..cuz he found too many Asian in his class...he is kinda worries those Aisans will pull down average class gpa...my prof told us where we can get help from writing centre.For sure u can get help from ur prof as well.But he won't tell u everything that u wanna know...e.g.when I have trouble to understand his topics,I asked for some examples...my prof told me that it is my job to find more examples and details...Plus,Tutor will never help u to write your essay...the whole essay is 100% from ur own words.But tutor will help u to improve ur grammas and teach u to set up ur essay's structure better. U are the only one that can write ur essay...plus,if u don't read ur novels or poems but u wanna write a better essay,ur tutor will say nothing he can help...

my tutor usually recommands me to send my essay to him earlier....he will underline the wrong sentence and tell u ur mistakes like tense...sth. like that...but u have to fix by urself...cuz ur tutor as a prof of ENGL, they always know well about the course policy.My tutor told me that he can not write my essay for me but he can teach me how to write it better.

I recommand that u should talk to ur prof about ur essay firstly, then take ur prof's advices to discuss with ur tutor..cuz every prof has their own taste...sometimes although ur tutor likes ur writing style, ur prof may be not....therefore, make sure follow ur prof's ideas and advices.
In my case, before I talked to my tutor I would always discuss with my prof and get his advices firstly. My prof would like to help students to fix their grammars and essay structure before deadline is due. But I am not sure whether all kinds of profs would like to do that,cuz I think it is kinda unfare for some students who don't get help to fix their essays from their prof because they havn't done their essay or some personal reasons...It is just my own case...I'd like to share the course experience with u guys.But it may not fit all cases....So,how to do in the next step is all up to urself...U are the only one that is responsible for ur course.

Actually, the changes of ENGL is much better for u guys..cuz if u pass fall term's ENGL course but u fail in winter term's ENGL course, u still can get 3 credits from ENGL course and u will need to get more 3 credits from ENGL...however, according to the old policy,if u pass fall term's course but u fail or drop in winter term's course, u will get 0 credits from ENGL course...then u will have to restart it again...cost more time and money...U got it?

P.S.....what I said is just my advices...u don't have to follow it if u disagree with it...As I said, u are the only one that is responsible for ur course and ur gpa...so work hard on it...Good luck to u guys...

我大二想转business，所以要修ENGL 。但是听说现在 spring 和summer没有ENGL了，不知道你了不了解？
还有就是ENGL哪一级相对比较容易？

那真不太清楚,不过我觉得应该就是没有一个是容易的...付出多少,回报就有多少,还是老老实实的去上好这门课吧

你如果真的那么急着入商学院,也可以挑战1个TERM上2门ENGL的课程,只要够6个CREDITS就OK拉...不过到时候撑死了过不了...不要怪我哦....当然我认识的人里面，也有人试过1个学期上2门英语,然后成绩又很好的...跟个人努力有关
