You are right in that many teachers who went to China to teach English do not have many good ways to teach. The reason is that most of them have not much experience of teaching in their own country, let alone any knowledge of educational theories. I once had a teacher, who used to be a lawyer in the States. Everyday at the beginning of the class, all of us had to stand up and pratice breathing----hold breath for a minute or something, then exhaled slowly. He said this would make us speak English better. Another funny thing he asked us to do is to say a sentence with different tones. It was ok to do this, but he asked us to do this one by one to him. Then all the rest of class had to go outside the classroom. When he faked the question if it was ok, a very loud NO surprised him. He asked why and my classmate asked him why, why did he waste our time? From then on, he started to plan his lessons more carefully and more meaningfully.
