Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

8 {8 d9 |7 D( s) C# q6 NDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the3 |0 [. |$ V" h) \$ v$ h
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule& R6 g2 H1 N% h7 o# X9 e( V, l9 t
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
' n# d% w( q# M# senvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste/ g/ B; `9 q5 n' L- T
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;! T- U c# s2 W4 p; T
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
+ Z6 n* s% Z; A
/ b* g" B& D S" I3 t( ]This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
( v* P1 Z; Y: F- kto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
: t9 V) M! D+ l; W1 Rcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:# m/ w8 N7 X1 W
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
6 c8 b- @' E C5 ?! B: iresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
3 `9 y) C: T* J3 J' ^/ ?importance of composting and recycling.

/ X" Q, q3 ?- C6 |; sReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;* A% ~, u4 ?: ]
public education display booths; assisting with programs and% |* s! D* @7 }" i3 N% z5 b" P
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
% g. ^/ {' G2 |various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
( N; E2 @% {; N) L* i- dvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
: s0 E0 g# l- l6 h. zmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
