Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

# Z3 G& | ?+ SDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the3 W) I1 M- _* A5 T0 w
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule: t# c) ]0 h% v% n
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about$ r9 J% Q4 C- i) y4 _
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
# T1 y& q+ l$ [& v, s* Gmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;6 A/ u5 A$ L J! Q3 l/ m% Z
vermin-composting and residential recycling.6 d2 n6 R( ]$ A) `" T% Z t
) o' b, F2 S" @7 U. v
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
2 K! S" i6 T; Q, p+ Vto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates& D6 {2 e. x [8 B4 @1 P
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% e6 d+ m5 h4 D3 g% Oreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important) X/ f( r( q2 ?8 t8 X+ r
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
6 F6 J/ r( z* p) \' L% i9 Kimportance of composting and recycling./ J! n4 h1 `, I2 h- e
' c& K3 S4 t6 b; hExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
/ ]# }* h A# Z. |; zReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;9 h* p3 M7 U# Y$ a6 q/ W8 ` ~9 |# u
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
! J, b- D% W2 e. `2 dmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
: X& ]1 b3 d, E% g/ |various demonstration gardens and general public and school* m# B4 l1 I+ T4 i. _4 e
presentations.9 R; @$ C5 `5 R, a) Y
7 |& _, {' {0 r* t$ B4 h5 CThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
# h; H) Y7 m1 K& s! ^/ Mvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the, Y. \7 b k' F& f" v! y
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
