* g( g2 i5 s1 L3 e I( DDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% b2 ^* O+ o9 S& ?+ `/ S* qMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
1 ?5 J- ~) y( @. N8 g$ I(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
4 E/ {2 M* r, Ienvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste, ?) ~1 E% H' c; D# Q/ v" }/ X
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;9 B# v' `% A( o& f% k. P8 W/ `
vermin-composting and residential recycling.- H% L" Q4 b- p/ z, H+ u
; g. h5 d# Q+ R) q* ?% p XThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips) j/ {* j( c4 F! l" l
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates; q! r$ X+ q, i3 T: |" d
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
/ Y7 \0 N2 o/ B3 c$ p/ Dreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important- K$ q" c3 l- q O
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
' U7 G. _* m* n S7 e4 kimportance of composting and recycling.: Y5 W. ]) `! b- t* ?

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
, A, M5 e" ]% CReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
! X" Y$ _/ I# Z- g6 ^8 l. A( g& dpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
$ G$ z! i$ f; H+ W9 y( tmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at/ R. M5 b6 d- s) ^* c* [4 ^& Y
various demonstration gardens and general public and school; e$ @" u' G* Z* r. z
presentations.

g: M5 d! x# E3 SThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and { m* o4 Q2 w, L" z& Y
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the

knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master% c a6 N% V4 w6 v9 r9 [( O
