6 @9 s% ~; u5 t" SDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the9 W( h) h, e1 y& e
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule8 x6 x3 d+ f8 G- j6 x4 ~
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about3 K8 E; @: ~4 a( R( |
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
V9 x/ v/ ~4 d2 W4 I/ r8 Kmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;2 e, O/ d, _+ w0 M4 b' A8 \
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
, U8 v0 b% {& X' @) S$ i$ s
" y( U1 n2 {5 T" O8 N# w6 qThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips6 `/ T& S2 i8 p9 n
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
1 E1 Y/ N( s1 a# @" P' Pcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:/ ?- R% v, L( c
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
$ @8 y* N9 g" F* F+ H2 uresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the8 w+ a5 T6 K- m U0 o
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
' ~4 t* P) w" ]7 O0 _4 V" T1 c7 tReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
3 w4 P9 w9 A1 H4 {* ?public education display booths; assisting with programs and8 F- P) s0 L+ { ]1 N0 L) G
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at- M+ ~- s" R5 B b( D
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
9 i3 l( V; V: J% V, f( Tpresentations.: u4 B4 f( q' ?3 w2 f

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and3 ?7 d1 W1 [9 H% G3 S+ H8 a! Y
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the3 w: N% R7 T, \9 r e0 \, s0 _
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
5 a- T; a$ q1 h) m; ^knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
