Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!* D( t$ X$ a t6 X
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch

8 U. W3 y; b. Z! r2 HDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
4 y- M0 O$ ?$ ]8 t6 Y. N' N9 @Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule7 Z1 N* J# \& i0 n" @" U! B z
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about; C2 H' G+ I I; _5 M# l/ H1 G) c
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ l( p& k) N+ }# }( R, c r& ?management; home composting; household hazardous waste;% {7 Y3 {% x8 s/ c) y! R, J
vermin-composting and residential recycling.: a+ u! B9 c2 w% G/ E+ {- Z
- g1 v' u+ k3 i( q% ^# J9 T& h6 aThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
7 j2 r* `, f% B( e7 \ B& B+ gto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates% r+ Y' m* F S% e( J
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:$ w9 g2 s; t$ I) i! K; |6 e2 h
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important- K% U) x: r( U6 c& l8 t6 M, H
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
4 y! O& {2 ~3 f6 P% V" _7 `: D( Uimportance of composting and recycling.
9 e/ v6 Z- g! V; m6 E- a7 ^% b: E9 l# K5 ^
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the6 L2 k! |3 v, B; }1 Q/ V. P3 c5 ?
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
1 V$ r) P6 S: m+ C4 _7 \public education display booths; assisting with programs and2 H% ^% p" P% b+ V
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at: I9 e4 W7 v9 B% b/ Y. o
various demonstration gardens and general public and school) \+ ]2 k! b, R6 U; H, t
presentations.

; r4 \" l) z5 l" DThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and0 U5 N. S3 c8 o
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
$ O; C; }( ?6 f. G( V) Omost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your# a5 @* m1 S4 T( |' j
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
