4 \' e3 ~% N! Y' a; LThe contractors charged are the Compass Group of Canada, which ran the camps, and Rodney McCabe, whose now-defunct company operated the two wastewater plants.2 i# G. `) A$ p" ~

The charges laid last year under Alberta's Environmental Protection Act include failing to properly treat wastewater and providing false or misleading information to the environment ministry.$ }1 b# p$ J5 O" }
& d4 M" a3 I! j7 m, i, l1 q* fEnvironment Minister Rob Renner says the charges were laid after a routine audit found problems with the sewage discharge into the Athabasca River.$ l Y4 Z& L0 k3 y' U

McCabe and Compass are refusing comment, but a Suncor spokesman says the sewage likely had very little impact on the water quality in the river.
