FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. - Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU) and two of its contractors are headed to court next month after being charged with dumping partially-treated sewage from two work camps into a northern Alberta river.+ l- q+ K' b9 p8 B: O/ |

The contractors charged are the Compass Group of Canada, which ran the camps, and Rodney McCabe, whose now-defunct company operated the two wastewater plants.( v8 p3 ?) \1 r- R

The charges laid last year under Alberta's Environmental Protection Act include failing to properly treat wastewater and providing false or misleading information to the environment ministry.3 p' q8 b2 t: k$ h- {5 }# V3 v
# z [" P8 |3 x6 jEnvironment Minister Rob Renner says the charges were laid after a routine audit found problems with the sewage discharge into the Athabasca River." ]1 L" S& M: X ^! y& q( a

McCabe and Compass are refusing comment, but a Suncor spokesman says the sewage likely had very little impact on the water quality in the river.
