A year ago these things would have spiked the price of crude oil by at ) d9 ?" r3 A+ ?5 s9 N: v
least $50.00 per barrel. Today, oil price declined by a record amount. + W F1 M4 p. z" ], n

There are several reasons the price of oil is decreasing in the face
/ u% o" c9 B% j& O2 mof so much news. These reasons are:

racing to produce bio fuels.

are experiencing 20% to 25% better fuel econony with the new

capture methane gas from landfills. This is a huge source of gas
. f/ Q! e- X1 P& y* e: a, q$ eavailable at very little cost or risk. The gas is displacing crude 1 e4 G3 p# V# s) X$ [ S
oil.

9. Coal is being transformed into a clean burning liquid fuel. The CO2 % b1 j. V' h. T9 Y
produced as a byproduct is sold to oil companies for injection into - x' V x8 C& d7 _

6 P( I* r, ~3 }' w0 d' g- f10. Solar, wind and ocean energy is displacing oil as an energy
% o& q# a! q7 {$ Isource. Three new wind turbines are being erected every day in the US.

Each of the above by itself will not make a large difference in the - |/ l" Y; L, X/ t" K, a
price of crude oil but the sum of all of them together is world - I. y% t1 `; J5 G
changing. The important thing is that OPEC no longer has the ability / G/ I, i4 N' H4 q& W) _% F
to control oil prices.
