Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

X' `+ }# \* z' TIn the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.2 y r& c; }! J W2 a1 ]; p# \
$ J3 ?5 O6 g: ~, M, d) H. b- i2 xAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.2 N6 L/ W, P, N/ a
6 M# v! y) m$ U4 [# cUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

9 ~& l5 K0 X2 k7 T: QHe was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.! r* Q2 }9 J b( X ^: j3 d
% |2 c/ f6 j! uA police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.

The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.$ E7 z: t2 U |" j% i$ ^( p. g4 n

Police said the individuals are not known to each other and the incident does not appear to be gang- or drug-related.
