Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.! h8 f# n( H" ~1 F

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

1 man dead in stabbing
$ I) t9 V z+ V8 UMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.; o3 ]5 m4 i( J9 x$ R# ]

Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.8 M2 H% Q' y7 b- |

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.- R% t) R# k/ G/ D

The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.5 k, ?" t+ @$ r8 y& U

Police said the individuals are not known to each other and the incident does not appear to be gang- or drug-related.
