Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.# c2 i& n0 T: W5 e3 a: C
" F4 w v. a& [7 W2 Z+ l! X1 LIn the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. MT, the EPS responded to a call of shots fired at a silver Infiniti near a Whitemud Drive overpass at 170th Street.

One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

3 E; H5 L, r- x* T- F0 `- O& NAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.

Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.- [: D+ ?+ x4 m$ O7 V
- t- L" k$ z2 N- ]The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.

Police said the individuals are not known to each other and the incident does not appear to be gang- or drug-related.
