Duties

3 Z) ~. ^" z! }4 D. X2 g    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
% _! M- W" `# h+ x+ C    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
$ z& i( j; p2 P- f) F4 L3 y    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators' u7 h0 f3 H, J7 s- s
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
4 V" ]* G/ n8 Y, n    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
3 p- t! C; K; [  Q! G! G7 Z7 x    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses9 D  g3 P% \6 j; i! z
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth
& g' o9 l+ m7 h& i9 O1 G    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program$ @1 S' s( d+ n' T. C$ J% E, M' @; A( O; I
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment- V$ d8 n) A7 L% P% Q( y
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports6 e1 j  R- j# P  `6 W
    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
* [( Y- M5 z% Z! u    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly* T4 r3 [# e$ \$ N
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities% p& C% V8 F( l5 a' t( ]
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

/ C0 h7 v3 o8 M, K& |2 kQualifications; [% i( ]9 f; w" K# ~; d

, e% a2 e( B, z+ [9 h    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
# g. g3 f" v, c0 |: l! ]    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth0 }7 X; F5 Y; _7 m+ Z: n6 w
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
& ]9 Y* Q! }5 z3 w    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
# `6 w2 z! H) r8 j& X& s    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
* ]; l  K! l. F    * Fundraising skills an asset
5 _4 L) T) H9 W- {0 X8 D9 [/ j    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
- f" _% k/ f* x    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills6 A2 [& T4 ?8 E9 o3 s
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
  n: O' m( `% z, ~    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills. j% c, U$ s* s# |
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
