+ p3 }6 V: f2 t) o7 L1 D3 a MThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”& S" g. l6 k4 s( s @* y& H6 o
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

Position Description:

Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and" Q1 p+ A6 F% o% a1 l
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and

Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and% [* R& E+ G# A. t( d+ L
community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is9 y) ~; L$ |8 s5 }
required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

understanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
) ~- P; G0 n. j$ o( j' M* A, S3 `implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves( x, W5 @6 D# w! m: t7 h- n9 h

• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals) |8 V2 ~4 I! c$ _ O/ Y
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
6 g, O9 a" n8 B& a7 q• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
1 [0 q% \5 i6 q2 V$ f B: N6 p0 W• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required; \' C5 G7 u" a# r8 B
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
, B+ I% J9 ^5 b' e2 b0 ^5 R. q" \• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services" s( P4 j% Q7 `8 q/ T
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency# n- p# u' Q# Z6 S: D1 j
• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW 6 L* O# c' t! J
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers& | V0 }3 x* U8 M# u8 Q
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required

• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:6 s* `/ Y' ], ?
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context

• Excellent written and oral communication skills7 I. n3 ?: `# i% \0 z- d
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence

• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
