0 t( [% x+ r9 B  E7 p/ b. YThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

& ^& O* P) r2 m" m; G- C- L' pThe project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

% p4 H$ Y/ Q$ v$ v0 e5 K' c9 E• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
% X: i- o3 Q+ Y, K2 i; f' {& q8 [• Interpretation and translation services

Position Description:
6 m4 y3 m9 n* KThe Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
$ Q2 B; e1 h9 B$ c0 e% n) k4 Wguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

  z+ A! ?# c+ R8 `  _2 CThe Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
% E! x# D1 c; ?: q7 T  q3 T! hWorkshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
4 f" `) P+ ^2 t; M  p/ K! Zcommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is
required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

This position involves working as part of a team to provide services, create an
understanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
4 ?5 F. r3 U3 F; Ximplementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
- D& h0 }9 `9 x4 o• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
. u3 Q" v8 z" W, X6 C* b• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
+ T2 X% Y2 f+ B) _' ^+ c: [" B• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
1 z! t9 z& M* X9 t4 k5 k• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
) \; u' z, s& Y3 O• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
; u. j) z1 [0 ~7 W& S+ t. E, U• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
0 b2 @" S2 X& f$ ?• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
) ^# t1 A# J9 v& \• Excellent written and oral communication skills
6 O# X/ |6 ^3 r' }• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
3 G0 |& d4 {1 m5 D6 r& }• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making

• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
