As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

/ K, y. m* n0 ~: e1 W% q tReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
n( j1 H' Z! `9 ^7 F• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment! u2 q. u5 W3 ?/ o3 v
• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements! G% U8 T/ a0 C! B: I* C
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module9 J8 v9 u% R9 B K% s+ W7 f, x* C
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
$ p, y" k. L+ B• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 3 W% r4 L0 G5 u9 `% D* l" d8 B
Job Requirements:
$ N: P" z0 H2 |: ]- ^/ v7 _5 s3 B• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline0 p" J+ f) {& ~8 W
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset9 }( p: g }1 l! C8 f
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
) I ~! ` P6 L8 v: G• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems t; N2 C" Q- W* B# V$ t
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets, ~( S8 B" V* j* H1 n) W
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
8 K( L2 {( A9 e# @% x4 a" y• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST7 {( y8 A4 \5 K/ q1 p
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills4 | G! ~" @5 s
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
