This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.2 j" u/ |0 I' f9 P9 `3 l

As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ! g9 G. ^6 S9 o7 y

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
1 B/ M1 Z' \7 c6 {$ N•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
8 v5 ]6 |8 d# q( s3 V+ Y•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
8 z" L) b' H+ B•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
5 \1 |5 V7 Q! E. X% N•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's% {2 U, _, T% T, T; a6 d6 q0 Z
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 7 m% @( j$ U* G( z; ]& O5 J
Job Requirements:  ; W6 N- [! ?/ z8 ^+ b" ?
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline. E9 W9 i) _: M/ [1 ]- P
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- l' N  a4 Q/ r% E•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience% s+ B- _+ U+ V6 E9 Y; p# \
•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems. s1 I& z% i0 `+ ^4 f
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
/ R  `4 c- B; e: @9 R, M•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies8 S9 ]+ z5 X5 |% `
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
6 {7 T) e6 C7 b8 j% t$ h•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills+ }0 }* {4 R2 U3 X
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
