The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

9 @" s* Z1 \( ]  r0 o2 w! N0 eResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
& q5 W! E1 v  D- c* b, ~• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
  w# r4 |/ O! W5 U1 `& q& x• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

0 @. d/ p, ?8 V: ^0 w2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

. o4 Z" R6 n# E& y4 E* c# n) y• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

, X$ W- N( a9 ]1 R+ E- C9 G8 jCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
