, d$ }/ J! R8 Vbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
( |9 F) Q1 ~6 j# Yemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
* c" D6 {' ^' M! k9 z! e) sprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that3 _ ^% t$ e3 P. F2 U A+ r( L
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
: T4 F+ S# ~" R/ t0 g9 QYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
( h9 t7 o! u- t! o0 S* M; `mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& s$ s. t. w( {* }conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
9 m; g" h, b9 |6 s. J rVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
' \/ f; ~9 o7 inecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve6 @2 ^% u$ j0 @& X4 j% u, J1 n, A
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose& B. k* o* c; b% K
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment& h! ~4 n; ?5 _" k+ V E" ]6 y
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
% u$ J! n: [* V" i! A: Lexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
4 a: p( _) D3 L1 bwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a$ }& b* `5 O4 W8 G* f
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
# w. { O% J5 A: RThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central8 _7 d! _ U$ m6 Z/ S1 y1 |! C
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.4 I" I/ u' Y! z0 ^9 G$ A( F
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of& ?; E% O; v S( U

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
: K) D0 L5 t- d# \, ?- @community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are7 G3 R/ Z" y: U0 {4 [$ x
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
1 H0 ], s6 R" I' H. c# W; J8 B• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
/ B' ^, _" F* tbeing realistic to each youth participant
+ l) S* m( [6 N7 F7 _• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the6 j" I% l5 ~4 y7 v( t8 @% n% T
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to) O* |# s: ^4 f. R) o9 }3 Z
each participant
; j+ d: ^; i" q: N+ e$ x7 o• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
7 \' X" l1 g( H, _: G. _cover letters and resumes etc.
5 n! I6 C, i. n) z$ @0 h \• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work0 }$ ^( {) u n. o) Y' N! L. x
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the( A$ b3 x+ g* m' H2 T' p7 W
placements8 o1 R) e. O; D
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating/ c/ w4 e, S: B0 K$ V, E: d: t7 u
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
5 k- }8 m% `3 F5 `• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
+ H6 a% a2 g, T+ K! J) ?is being fulfilled for each youth
! d( i; E7 U( K8 V. Z- [• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
+ i6 E3 U4 F Z" t5 drelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project; h5 l; Z( b* U- J. p* _1 S
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
' d; a b+ p4 m' oExperience Required: Employment Developer
( z* j3 a0 G& I# ^5 p Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted/ A2 a, c9 B: n3 _5 \: m8 _
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.! k" C# {1 `5 l( f: t# ]

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections

 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth. t! _* `' b1 o; `4 X0 \
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

F+ C' _/ z( W Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
