The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
& V- ^) a- _( \. s# Nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& @0 C1 a, E( t8 @/ kconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 p3 s4 j* Z3 L2 t2 d. \6 knecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
8 [& K. k: `) ]! u/ j6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
# h2 ?% |& h) ?1 L9 ^/ R) xextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
6 P/ @8 r( L* i/ i7 gcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
7 n9 n$ t, g/ Fwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
' B4 Y, k; t# c* F+ vbeing realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
2 K3 L- T# ?' s; v# _youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
4 e: }( ]* j2 n; T3 Ueach participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
; b7 ^' |3 y9 V9 U  g; nexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
  y0 W, n8 O% c5 ~% P: f, {the process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
- v% E- [+ Y6 `$ hrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
) _& \/ ~. O. b  }time management.
 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
