The VERTO Project
6 H; f9 B) N, z x1 HThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
" J0 j- v) b+ _1 S; v. T" dbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
' B: B* K7 g, }: j3 j8 w" ]employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
- i! c0 _& T$ }' gprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
3 g9 X" B, e. g' A8 ]8 Z" ostands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.; X, u1 L% U z5 O1 b4 d; s7 g
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our5 ]4 }( @7 S- D
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve- ]* k" X: Y' X+ \+ X& a
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
' \% p0 Y$ H! S( X" E1 gVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
3 W! i! T! H' C3 h7 hnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
+ Z3 l; i; N& }youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose4 r/ k8 O1 c/ n; V @
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment* p' N6 B- w! P; Q5 y7 H" G7 C
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
' m- T5 O5 R6 r5 Aexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
& A1 w6 A! Z3 W- A1 q$ `wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
7 a Y% Q3 o. R* ^, j6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed., N: e' i: D B6 H" e1 b; A0 |
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
) t( ~9 d* |* }: T5 s Y( NYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta., i& z7 R2 |' O
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of- f8 H8 T/ Z' C) r

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)% u3 f; c" G! i+ ^" w
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the8 x: l; {; R6 [- ~
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
' Z r# L5 v- \. cwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
- J3 o) d5 r) i# c f3 `• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as' |# L7 w3 n3 d+ S, d1 ^
being realistic to each youth participant
" ^5 u, x$ H) S2 O% L9 l• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the3 S" ]2 f6 w( L, }& g, w- W
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
. z4 h& y# A! F) h9 G* M% j( _9 s. ?each participant
4 j1 ?, q5 c, L$ W. ^• Assist youth with employment development including the development of5 K+ J, J! d2 s8 U3 L8 J
cover letters and resumes etc.7 G% M) m4 v$ U2 v8 [( b
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
8 u2 _4 a1 R6 }; ]1 Aexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
]* h* i5 w& `% H/ ^( f4 Aplacements3 I0 t. E+ `8 e
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
' s8 x, X% M" K, n9 v- L* _the process, and supporting the youth where needed
& X0 z" e( e2 v. p% X) ~• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach( x. s( q9 q" V% `
is being fulfilled for each youth6 l$ p4 k! s( c
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are9 V# u+ E1 V* v. I" _8 B
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project8 E! E% `' i2 a/ h# {* J3 N
• Other tasks as they arise within the position7 x3 j2 X" L+ ?( g7 c* G3 a
Experience Required: Employment Developer3 o: V9 P) ^+ b# {
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
4 o, A( t' M6 a' k4 y0 N* U/ `% Z A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
