The VERTO Project
' n* b  I- g1 s! kThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
! N$ Z9 z& {, T9 o: O9 L/ f" ^bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
. K5 t- \* S) m; remployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
; R6 q* h+ ~3 W1 Ostands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
3 Y- N  ?2 |# C& ^) X- ]mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
; g8 M8 q8 }. f' I  HVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
2 h  Z0 }+ J( cnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
7 O$ R- `/ v4 R" t/ m: Vyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
- v3 y+ W4 y! x; R. D1 v! Udevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
# p( T1 [% m# s/ Twellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
1 J3 x  |( @& h* W  R6 A- u6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: p1 a2 ?  R5 f3 nThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
# }" I7 x0 |, \% Z$ g  uYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
( m9 z( h- J8 b* d- KThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
7 r8 y7 C7 V0 R, l: Hextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

9 x8 \3 D2 ^7 d6 E0 t/ Z: X9 g- mEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
# i# g- n) t" Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% M2 y/ b; e+ vcover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
- @8 z6 p" H/ E' m! a) Aplacements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
* r) _/ V& p2 v5 b. i. O" uthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
( W! I9 ]4 j4 W, Z' Srelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
2 Z. }3 k; L8 ^3 H* T* w% } A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
9 o* ]' J1 D6 e! b$ ?* f8 O2 H1 ^ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
# e3 z: X+ L- S. \, f) O Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
1 t) L  _* m" {; t Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
; Z. O& B3 S1 A- t3 Nat risk as it pertains to employment
# K7 {, `/ N1 @: _# m, z Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
" w; ^- X6 L7 {) p& j) W9 X Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
