The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will8 q8 D! s4 n* c6 e+ d% C
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
& V- ^) a- _( \. s# Nemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day9 a/ `* v0 ^2 K/ D' ^2 O r" k
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that& }8 a* U2 y) n, z& u9 o* ~( `
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.( d* s! z6 L0 B& C' a) W" K
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our4 ~* g8 N9 C/ z" t, Z! ` ^
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& @0 C1 a, E( t8 @/ kconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the2 g5 l$ K; g. j, a5 s
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 p3 s4 j* Z3 L2 t2 d. \6 knecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve6 C+ `( d% x, q6 c. f0 Y0 z8 @
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose/ I: P; ^# f) \$ S
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment* Z9 |9 }9 B* C. `$ T) ] ?
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and3 O) }' X2 C2 r
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and1 l: i; h! b1 \- l& j
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
8 [& K. k: `) ]! u/ j6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.* d$ G+ B4 [% z( G5 `
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central& g5 U/ M$ N+ r' ]
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.) O3 X& b$ _ J/ p( F! u( W
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
6 P/ @8 r( L* i/ i7 gcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
7 n9 n$ t, g/ Fwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities P( Z- u$ S( A: x" ^( m7 o# V
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
' B4 Y, k; t# c* F+ vbeing realistic to each youth participant8 X" B# X9 r1 |. J
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
2 K3 L- T# ?' s; v# _youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
4 e: }( ]* j2 n; T3 Ueach participant4 D: z- ~& M9 _1 ?9 V" J) g! m+ j, K
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of% j5 Z! |' D3 f( ^! X2 H- u2 W/ [. S+ O
cover letters and resumes etc.( s* X9 P) k8 }
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
; b7 ^' |3 y9 V9 U g; nexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the! R' ~& X% T+ `) i* ?
placements: ]& ?; ]: A& k/ m
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
y0 W, n8 O% c5 ~% P: f, {the process, and supporting the youth where needed; z W. J& f* M" u# v6 a! d6 f
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach- u4 t, C$ V0 ?) H8 u, {* L
is being fulfilled for each youth. X% t( o1 d! M( P5 D. N4 w
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
- v% E- [+ Y6 `$ hrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer0 |6 T0 u& `/ ^7 [7 y0 f5 V
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted8 I, q g- @& W( ^% y! J3 @1 \
