The VERTO Project
' n* b I- g1 s! kThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
! N$ Z9 z& {, T9 o: O9 L/ f" ^bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
. K5 t- \* S) m; remployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day3 _/ Z8 H) z, U9 Z+ f2 d8 k
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
; R6 q* h+ ~3 W1 Ostands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence." z6 ]6 O( O5 F4 O6 K' x$ _
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
3 Y- N ?2 |# C& ^) X- ]mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve8 A& Z+ h7 o* z( v
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
; g8 M8 q8 }. f' I HVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
2 h Z0 }+ J( cnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
7 O$ R- `/ v4 R" t/ m: Vyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose; w0 m$ e, ?& y: q
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
- v3 y+ W4 y! x; R. D1 v! Udevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and& ^# x a$ Q7 [2 W3 t: @
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
# p( T1 [% m# s/ Twellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
1 J3 x |( @& h* W R6 A- u6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: p1 a2 ? R5 f3 nThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
# }" I7 x0 |, \% Z$ g uYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
( m9 z( h- J8 b* d- KThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

9 x8 \3 D2 ^7 d6 E0 t/ Z: X9 g- mEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)/ D$ U- Y5 G7 E5 K, m) f
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the/ c% y0 J8 I! H. P
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are* t4 f# d V0 u; {9 V
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities3 i# G" x, w0 b
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as4 l, ?& O& d) H' y
being realistic to each youth participant. p- ]. o/ {2 z: X9 Z- }( \
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
# i# g- n) t" Tyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to# o7 D, J0 ?: `
each participant" X w F" Z' @% G
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% M2 y/ b; e+ vcover letters and resumes etc.0 P7 Q% t1 r9 H3 M
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work/ F3 Y3 p/ c2 {8 g# V& I" n6 ?
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
- @8 z6 p" H/ E' m! a) Aplacements! w/ W& p8 d0 o: r8 d1 k. k9 Y
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
* r) _/ V& p2 v5 b. i. O" uthe process, and supporting the youth where needed3 N) K" N& q- {( v% i
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach2 w5 |" H- H$ `3 p. J
is being fulfilled for each youth& ]8 k2 A3 @9 A' f9 n: p3 k
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
( W! I9 ]4 j4 W, Z' Srelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project F7 @& x' _2 }; X. V
• Other tasks as they arise within the position- W& c: w% ~+ `7 b. k
Experience Required: Employment Developer) s6 P) u7 Q) B& A& O1 z7 i
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
2 Z. }3 k; L8 ^3 H* T* w% } A minimum of three years relevant experience is required. [3 B) I% M* P+ ?: D6 f: x* W
