Position: 6 Camp Assistants, New Immigrant and Refugee Youth Day Camp

The “New Immigrant and Refugee Youth Day Camp” program is a unique program offered in partnership with local Edmonton high schools. New Immigrant and Refugee youth will take part in diverse activities such as visual and performing arts, field trips, career exploration, life skills, and outdoor wilderness activities, while also practicing their English language skills and earning up to 6 high school credits!

• Camp Assistants will work with new immigrant and refugee youth participants during a summer day camp in the month of July, 2008.
. M3 z8 p! t0 t9 [• Camp Assistants will work with a Camp Coordinator and Project Coordinator.3 o! H- N$ N2 R q; V# O
• Key duties include: participating in a 10 hour leadership training session on how to lead a camp; supporting the Camp Coordinator with the recruitment process and management support for camp participants, including providing orientation about the camp program; setting up rooms for workshops and various sessions; engaging with individual youth to support them in practicing their English language skills; videotaping participants to assess their language skills at various points during the camp; administering surveys/evaluations during the camp; and assisting with final camp reporting and documentation. Responsibilities will be distributed between the two assistants associated with each camp.5 b& H9 R9 ^( r6 S8 a

Qualifications:& w% |8 Q* \6 ~4 |1 J
A minimum of second year in High School; experience working with youth (school work with peers will be considered); experience/knowledge of issues facing immigrants and refugees; strong communication and relationship-building skills; ability to provide mentorship/role modeling to new immigrant and refugee youth; flexible; ability/willingness to be a team player and work within a team environment.
