, ?' \& l4 Y5 J- V0 Wthe fact that the university housing has no more space for newcomers - F5 V+ x, L' o2 D) I
and most of the newly admitted students who applied for housing were
+ X! @! L8 G' ^ U' masked to look for a residence on open market.

+ U8 E7 x: H d; NWhile the average cost of living for a typical graduate student has
" Q7 G1 d6 r" G- O( J! k5 l; o1 Bincreased by something more than 70% percent we are getting paid ; C5 ?5 f8 `( `
exactly for the same amount of money that we were offered in our
; i' z) v$ O, C8 ?* Sadmission letter (18000 CAD + 1500 CAD for international students ( d3 e& F" f$ x; \
=19500CAD. What I get is something around 1000CAD/month!!! after , L) }/ ^7 K6 b2 j+ D
tuition fee and taxes). To make the argument easy to understand just / x8 f4 a6 Q0 \: a+ h9 f
imagine that a new student gets the same amount of money that I am
* a2 o* q3 p; w* B) ogetting now and I was getting 3 years ago but he or she (like all of ( v7 S. q/ R* E% I c4 c: |
us) has to pay twice as much as I was paying for housing when I was , G! P' A) h% D7 u0 P& r9 ^" R3 T- z
admitted and has to incur at least 70% more in average living costs.* U3 b# c7 r' U' I9 `

Also have in mind that Alberta is a rich province and University of 4 ^$ x2 _5 N. `7 s4 e0 E/ d
Alberta has a remarkable record in absorbing various money and grants
' F. [0 F, U, ^( w4 `from different governmental and non governmental sources and graduate
# Q0 b5 x- g# r$ ?3 o" \students are the main pillars of research work at the university.

My objective in bringing all abovementioned points in your attention
7 b4 [2 n' j) Z. iis to question the adequacy of financial aid for graduate and
4 F) g: z/ x2 O* i; z# t. T1 y2 c( Bespecially international students. Isn抰 it time for the GSA to take
; z, E3 v8 D3 f7 y/ Z# |- L
% E3 v' X' |: _# y6 K, _5 T' ~" minitiative in raising the issue of increasing financial aid for 9 F* C- }' ^/ J- `
graduate students so that the can afford this increase in costs?& e3 v/ t' p3 p" g# d4 m! S
, r' v1 z- R1 R% [* P. x. `
