Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

9 n8 j2 S. N$ ^•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
, @8 m# A( ^" m' Q5 ~1 k' [$ H/ d•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
1 o/ J* x3 f/ I•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information./ T: d) n* c; {9 U1 e
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 4 L% E1 v) S3 V3 w7 n/ H
and traffic conditions. 0 Z) S9 H5 D2 G0 e
•        Adhere to schedules.2 M$ k4 y0 I1 u" b5 ~6 |) |! D
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.5 a, \- ~* R( T
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.& w5 ]6 k/ P+ @

JOB REQUIREMENTS:$ [' R9 U  R2 c, |  W
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.' [% k: Y$ N6 N1 s
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability ) Z8 U& R) P; Z( H, g2 p
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

3 j& a( N& G7 c0 `% i3 {•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).; U7 v4 t2 E" f1 M) B) v
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
7 S( m% w" a2 O3 Z9 ~: v/ c  d•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
: M$ h+ q/ [: ~! Q+ V•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 3 m" k4 e9 w" r: l
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ' y5 x" F! @7 y5 a7 u& {
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 7 p6 C/ W3 ^1 |
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

5 ~& F, A! R" M( k•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.6 e0 O6 p. V3 X4 k

HOURS OF WORK:6 Y) q; s2 F* P
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week * \% I, x, u' \
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly0 M5 C! q3 \: A
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly7 D/ b0 J# [' {) I# j* e, L2 P
& _8 X) u' T' Y( S( o
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 , K# W; B( M/ D6 N
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
2 Z9 k# \" n* k3 a2 Q$ RPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
