Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
) Q& z) L2 E! F7 Q0 }2 O• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
; b# O5 u# j3 R# a4 R0 O• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.4 l( f8 q, M! a$ t; N" q' M
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.( V! L3 j6 p) ?/ e- T$ x; P: ?
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
$ R+ @) y1 K# u. r: J, j; _to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger . d$ ]/ a( i$ j: l- c1 }9 Q L
of the day.
! s: ]% Q. J! q: U% ?• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).1 c7 c% ~) w4 z
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! { m* Q8 H8 o& H$ I8 e3 d7 F! R- p! |• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.: F# M( E! i4 l8 \8 e+ A
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) b8 @2 B+ e5 q
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 5 x$ X# E, s$ R
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 6 @0 M9 Q4 c" m( j: ?; v+ b* J
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week , W" _4 ?% @) p7 I6 Q; k
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly L6 e& n+ }3 q+ }; i6 w
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly! i9 z6 I% `: R, W; J L; k

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly+ Y8 s, B7 s! \6 u
