Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

4 j( Q: j- V/ Q" b1 FFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
8 ?+ N% I; h& ^! g* M5 m; @: F•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
+ c  ?! o& W* u9 T6 c•        Adhere to schedules.
" Y% N; f/ E) z: Z0 T# ?: D•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

" j9 `2 {+ @: T•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
0 h0 a$ b8 `! q•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

' O9 x5 C( y4 z& d/ @# @# YJOB REQUIREMENTS:
; q9 `7 E5 m/ `0 w•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
8 p4 k, |0 l1 b  x5 u•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
6 b* ~6 q: R8 f, zof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
% m5 ^+ `: o2 J2 |6 Z# [5 _•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
  J$ e+ F! B" O% fshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
* U, l1 z/ U. O/ X$ \% ?•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
% I, v: Y) X/ t5 P0 u, Wvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
: j/ V# F9 {8 Y( L6 Q•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
* X6 x; v( Y! J& {7 IVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
' h+ H) j1 O  S2 e; LThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
2 J; H) u! p3 T/ w! L4 pTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
