2 B7 o1 U' _: N/ x" tEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
0 H; {; D9 a& t; X9 Y•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
6 h0 m4 {! \5 |( D/ O+ w•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
  }8 m1 w5 f# D  hand traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
2 K/ u6 D1 q* r: C•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
& A6 g) n! L" V" j; S/ oto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
1 u- B4 i& Y. D, B# M5 A# o, |8 cof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
. R- v- G0 f0 {2 c0 k" R, w3 y, _/ }•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
0 e6 T$ U5 l( [2 a8 Z•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
4 g7 ?& g4 ?* y  h" \2 O  _1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
