, N* x4 P% s4 K' P) f! bEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
\$ d" t$ a; {# k7 U2 b- K• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
4 e; r2 d! P# @6 R- \; R( Z• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.. z+ N0 |1 ^. \5 K% j R( ?
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.' H9 T! L- e! h, ]
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 9 m* k- L! r/ B/ s
and traffic conditions.

; H2 z. {* m+ _9 r3 c• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. " @0 P( \5 C; e

• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
' [3 R# _2 W7 h5 q6 q4 [• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
6 k4 W! K& R6 n1 {• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
& U' m4 }9 q& p3 p/ ?1 n7 {: y7 gto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).' U i+ i3 B! L6 K
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
V) `& ]* Z. y! H; j$ f( k• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
9 o+ t& G! D0 s• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) 0 t8 D N+ s& e4 C+ s( _! U) l$ ]; G
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ |- z4 y. A% o: c• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill " s8 q( \" t* s
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).( w2 a! e0 ~3 L5 x o5 @$ j: E
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.- x# T6 P: N+ } I
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:3 y$ @2 B# h) v$ d0 x
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week 1 O3 s8 T$ [4 t
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly# }/ g% j0 V- t6 v! m
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly( I0 R# j t! d) j* \
% h9 u# b5 ]* o# l- m# `; }8 O( MSALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
