" A; P w b! K pEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.: f5 c8 P4 {! _9 J

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
/ D$ O% s: E* F3 v k• Collect proper fare, issue transfers., V: D( u2 L1 D/ r! M( a! N
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
2 I. g5 ^! j$ v6 ~1 q• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.

• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
' G6 I2 S8 V: [: K- P; `• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
/ m7 I0 F0 U$ e1 g+ O: k0 Z• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ b8 |2 N C. G$ Eto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 3 q! d, P* \9 K

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).* w% k1 F# Z' {! X D7 d& @
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
* V$ o A% S0 K- Z/ W& _( c1 r• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.5 h- A1 e- E: Z' P2 |
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
: |5 x4 u T' F2 [& _* p* e6 ]showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. + U" [% v& M* B+ a1 V
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 L" H4 q4 t1 ?% Q' M/ Qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.6 L. Q0 C6 D8 C# l9 g

HOURS OF WORK:
; D' c& S8 }4 n+ ~" lVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
$ l2 O. Y8 e3 G' B; Q- y% j0 N1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
) c, b4 ` p8 ?6 eThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly% V% k* x- u3 K: s, V
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
