: o, n6 ~2 \6 Z) U. X5 O* ]$ MEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
1 V# I5 O/ }! W•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
+ O; K* P1 Y- I4 {9 X4 j•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
% P# ^) ~3 u- Q. g* w( }# y2 [and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
3 r, h9 ~. @, E0 Q•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
! e" c( }6 o$ Q* {6 }' [( D•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
" P* z6 w; C- B. u' p•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
5 o0 R. [( r6 |# [4 K3 hto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
* k8 i9 w" M: w" `3 S•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
! G# \  A. D4 V* [! x7 o3 X•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
/ \2 J+ H3 g3 T•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
8 A" W% ~! A4 ]; T* f% Q•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

/ o  |3 j5 r! C5 O" A( hHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
4 x% m% q$ Z  @, `; H1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
- D& q% L7 E/ t9 f9 JThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

5 V, ]# I. b: d# S4 ]* pSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
8 r0 D: F( Q6 T0 r, r) n5 uTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
! Y; o. B8 k3 K0 H% ]6 \$ b( z/ FPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
