1 T+ }: L- g- L3 FEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
2 O* e/ M. W8 R6 V•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

; ^- ?! i3 Q, |( M4 {•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
; F* w7 I* H! l, N! {: e+ Z- E4 W3 T•        Provide excellent customer service.

" d9 D( p* c8 m+ h  KJOB REQUIREMENTS:
( ]; o% `( C, v/ \•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
  [8 ^! I6 E8 R9 w•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
) n7 g# A. q: W2 Q& T* d, uof the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" U2 d" u+ c2 S- y5 J- o•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 N" q7 ]1 @5 h2 Y. y' m•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
3 k( w1 |; S  Y+ h6 [" r( G, h•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, D  `, U$ K+ w, Xvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
2 a0 y$ k) k6 o  y# a7 p8 i•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
1 e) g6 g: W7 b. ]+ \Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
! j3 n% ~0 @' Y( \" V) U* ]Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
) \; {0 d# R9 c# P5 n* W0 U/ c7 ^
3 i' s* {6 J) u/ c! s9 M0 p$ O0 i% DSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
3 K1 p& B& Z- g& FTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
! @! Y2 H5 @2 L) y/ ]- rThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
