new comer to Edmonton

i want to move to Edmonton from Montreal,  and i am going to have a look at Edmonton and Calgary in July. i have friend in Calgary.
please give some advice for my trip in July, i have 9 days totally, and i hope to get something about the city, school(primary and secondary), the renting and working envoirment.
