! U6 q: L2 H7 J( `7 R. @1 OJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
) G4 \- R% T: L+ O7 m: Qthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  ! v" P) c- X' l3 Y
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
5 |; X0 L7 n. O* B' ACouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
6 N! E# p6 Y7 q8 M# @& A0 SStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
) ^2 j3 m8 ]; j0 W/ n3 ~year following their appointment.$ i6 p* K2 O5 }" N( D5 z: O  ^

/ }# F2 j- m3 a1 y! DDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1 Z6 y- c  `4 q6 Y" ^, i/ y( ]

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20007 M) W8 O  c  W! W  n& e0 a# [7 ~

( T% @% l2 j" M/ }& v2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

& L5 r& k' E+ k3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.5 S7 F" H. i7 c

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
% h! J9 p3 D7 |: [7 i1 g2 Z6 Yadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
+ m. b7 t: h' V6 }6 wacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.
3 D; [3 {  @# p/ j' K7 q
! l! \$ i4 U% Q* p* r8 g' N" ~; E. R* h5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
4 ^9 @2 s' r# I- w# J* {referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
1 [5 P- G0 _$ f& |; u$ {parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 1 |+ ~3 \( @# R( w  c
referendum.# x3 o* H" `. [6 P2 A) o7 u

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
: H$ G" Y2 |4 DBylaw 2000.

. r9 B: [" @7 S' |1 e10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  # e5 R3 Q0 V3 B3 F5 ?/ N) J# O' U
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
2 T% n5 f% D0 j& r: ^7 Zfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
  s1 m' x3 ^( D1 i- r2 N# {of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
" B4 \2 L6 h8 ^) _+ u* k5 f  T2 |6 k$ y2 m5 r9 N: o
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  . M( B7 r9 Z5 X* `# D9 |9 U
the course of an election/referendum.3 A+ y) V) E9 f) o5 ?$ ~. h+ t

- Z6 a( `9 f$ f; b- m: V8 C12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  : X" U5 C& I, w" S# P
process is in place.' T3 j- a$ L% P; J1 Q# a/ H

0 J; {/ x( f7 d  t6 d- Y1 d. Q9 f13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
& |* A$ Z& a& \of activities and recommendations.. N& Y) [8 _4 U0 Z

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  1 y" J  K8 n; ~, O, z+ f1 N& H
of campaigning.* g* \# o8 Y4 X  e6 @+ F

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

6 E& G$ Z# |# s1 yQUALIFICATIONS:; R9 H) ^1 D/ k5 r

, W4 S7 q( R7 V( J, ~2 C" F# O: q1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  - S& k9 \* ~( x/ D& A  F
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
- P; v# j: X- Z& j3 M- ZUnion member.2 o1 X6 k, `! f7 b! ]
6 ^+ T  K7 P- m7 \0 f( q
2) Must have some experience in student elections.$ {% ?/ x0 k) w

0 j6 D( ^3 Y: K; F. o3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ! R  X! t3 m' Y7 l  \
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
5 e. R* C' r6 Y) D0 ywith the Students' Union.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
