JOB SUMMARY: The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of ; Z; f0 [: J8 K
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw
, U5 C# X2 S! j1 g3 D9 ]2000. The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students' ! i2 p2 x0 g) c( o0 D/ {9 K
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee , p; }& U; n7 g0 N
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the : U7 ], z1 A, u' D
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000. b H3 s) ^4 I! T" u" g) r
' ]3 E8 Z$ P6 i" j2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.8 U: J9 z/ K' P( h0 d0 l

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing " K' i# T" d# a" n
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations * o2 P7 q3 X# E& u8 ^9 y6 A8 H
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.1 A: E' W/ r5 f4 f# V) m( ]

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections
}! q. i) r# @( ]/ `Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a
) t* `* E+ f {) A: \minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday, 3 v2 J+ x; f; I! N" O
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day 3 }2 Y( T6 s6 H3 r; z8 A! U
of voting. These hours are to be posted in advance.

the course of an election/referendum.

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting
8 n h+ e" }8 o. X lprocess is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report

of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS: y1 W c9 Z7 `- e( V2 e

9 m" `9 [6 ^9 i& @( k& H. _for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students' ) I+ X" u* X" Q# Z, J9 h9 g8 ^
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.2 N6 P; r- w" N- c9 j' M

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
