% z4 G% w5 a* u4 u' C1 IJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  - I8 E5 S$ x9 K& n/ D7 R
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
* P+ O1 |+ _! Q) z1 A" t2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  ! v( f6 T' v+ r2 K2 U- L+ L' _/ g
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
  t7 Z5 b. H5 }* D( V; u8 f1 SStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  5 \# o$ V5 W, V
year following their appointment.

$ Q% H. i+ `8 c% C3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.: P7 K2 G* Y/ {0 L( Y, f9 q2 X2 @8 a

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  + J) V, \# [6 q) E; M( O
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations    {4 ^$ D' p0 _
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

$ t9 J" t6 O: Q: e" L4 L5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
0 I8 \& I2 k0 D7 t& Yreferenda.7 E/ s! P; e$ F4 d+ Y9 X" o

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  # t2 C# j3 V) ]) N" z0 {6 V& F

. H* p3 I+ @+ \, I7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ ; W- M, T+ v  v
referendum.

9 s/ E4 D- v! U# O To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
  j- Z2 S, X" B/ DBylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  4 U6 f4 J# J" W; @* H
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
9 k+ m+ p( g* A7 h5 vfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  # e& z" I; K" g
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.; x' a2 y7 A, F( Z8 l

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
0 Z: [9 @' T+ Ithe course of an election/referendum.

$ Z6 ?7 w2 R3 ^9 l+ U" H$ s12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  5 ?1 W! s- ^8 g" J

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  ' e4 I! S5 X% f& u: C3 Y7 h

( e& N( d9 S0 s- J, X1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
- m2 Q7 ?  ]% C2 c8 yfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  + k7 [' R2 ], q6 r9 Z
Union member.
4 |3 T0 Q- t/ \$ [: J/ k& f( T
( V/ X4 ]* `3 D7 V/ q/ o  `2) Must have some experience in student elections.
9 C, s) G3 L9 w5 q+ Y8 ?, w
; V" ]" H2 p2 y3 ]% Y3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
, m0 C7 I4 K* }7 I9 R, _any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  1 I. d/ C) E, k
with the Students' Union.
