JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
- Q- Q+ Q. k, P$ Kthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
0 d( E, {; }' ?9 i0 w. Z( B2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
: p) L& x8 H" s( S' ~* JCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

* ]; }# w; `- ^- b& NDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

) x2 C* G* ~# U+ Q( l" H( F5 T2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

, |; {5 D' I* I2 Q6 ]: N* c5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

; I7 u! E" o, d3 Q* ]& s8 O2 G) ?6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
. V- ^2 @$ o& K2 Q1 N' ~parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
+ V" |' E8 [1 P3 s# s! Y- Kreferendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
) ^8 X9 Z2 n( J4 l" \: f( o+ n/ @Bylaw 2000.
% {) E1 T0 X; r% ^7 \! s
* z7 R) [" S, H8 ^10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
% T: f/ |& Q. r1 g  Kminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
1 J0 R& j3 d4 z" b9 z. c. Sof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
+ N+ T/ r" r/ E6 t# m( H/ g7 S( `the course of an election/referendum.

$ g. R- d  f+ F12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
( u/ s# o, o/ |( q% r& hprocess is in place.

# \7 C- j/ j. e3 j13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

# V  q; H) g9 R6 K* C8 x1 _1 S14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS:
7 r1 E5 I& N& B0 H! [7 X5 A( O
- u: c, k( K( t/ j0 [; Q1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.
( o0 ^$ E8 C! r: d
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
$ W* |/ D% }3 cwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
